Art Acevedo recently said, in response to the passage of 910 as amended, “If criminals, drug cartels, and extremists had a seat at the policy writing table they couldn’t have come up with [a] better Amendment. By prohibiting law enforcement from stopping or detaining to check for [concealed handgun licenses], Texas is authorizing within our state lines any and all criminals to carry a firearm. My heart goes out to domestic violence victims and the victims of violent crimes in our State. Through this amendment we are facilitating the victimization of the people we are sworn to serve, protect and lead.”

Skipping all the blatant BS, I wanted to point out something that may be a little more subtle... Serve, protect, and lead. This statement alarms me. I wonder if Art is trying to conflate serving with ruling?

What he means is when people come to a city a lot can be said about the quality of police equipment, staff and job performance. People often never see or hear from a city employee except firemen and police officers.

now where they set the example can go either way. In this case the selection of an anti american police chief is leading in the wrong direction and thus shows the city hea employed by does not value its citizens.

So all the criminals that are currently concealing their guns are going to now carry them openly since they aren't supposed to be questioned about it. Got it. What world does this guy live in?

The anti-American left will say anything, and its all lies, and they know that the uneducated will share their feelings and believe their lies. It could be this statement, global warming or racism, its all lies and they know it. This is one of the most BS statements I have ever heard. I wish I could sit down with this a$$ clown, but I would be put in jail.

Oh-ho! One of my favorites--society's "leaders".

The president is supposed by some to be the leader of the nation or the leader of the free world. Darned if I can find that anywhere in the constitution. He's the leader of the executive branch of the fedgov. That's it. Anybody who wants to look to him as their leader is welcome to, but that is their personal choice. And, they darned sure ain't got no standing to tell me he is my leader, no matter who holds the office. It is instant socialism, government leading society.

Similar for cops. Show me where in any state statute authorizing a locality to establish a police department that police also have a leadership role in society.

Nope. The only leader I have or need is my boss at work, and his boss, and so on. Otherwise, when it comes to leadership, I look to people like philosophers for ideas--people who looked over the ground (subject area) before me, thank you very much. The last thing I do is look to government for leadership.

I've always thought people were .... I dunno supposed to emulate their leaders?

Do I really want to beat my domestic partner on average twice as much as the average person?
Do I really want to be known by my fellow man as someone who carries out vigilante actions against those who merely question my motives or actions?
DO I really want to be held practically uncountable for my own actions, no matter how egregious they are?
Okay, I admit that last one is kinda cool.

It's a baseless argument on his part. Whether cops can stop you or not, criminals still won't carry openly because they won't want to draw attention to themselves. Period.

AUSTIN (KXAN/AP) — An ethics complaint against Austin Police Chief Art Acevedo will go forward after a city panel ruled he violated ethics rules by not filing a 2012 personal financial report in a timely manner. Austin’s Ethics Review Commission unanimously voted Tuesday night to uphold the complaint filed by a former police officer in December. Jermaine Hopkins has accused Acevedo of not submitting a 2012 personal financial statement on time.

The good Chief needs to be a wee bit more subtle in his anti-liberty, anti-citizen, positions...his Doomberg is showing.

Wait, is anyone really surprised that Austin has a liberal/progressive holder of public office? Really?

And this is one more reason why we do not let police make laws. After all, why would a police officer want someone else to have a gun, ever?

Something tells me this creep and his big city counterparts will instruct their departments to find some other excuse to harass an OC'er.

Realizing this will likely occur despite the clarity in the law - however...is 3/4 of the battle.

Got my personal recording devices in working order, currently looking at 2 bulldog plaintiff attorneys to represent me if/when the chance for a big fat Municipal payday presents itself.

You know, that might not hurt to spread that around, as in, all TX OCers noisily finding plaintiff attorneys in advance.

You know, blog about having found a good attorney to represent you. "Here's his name and phone number if any readers want to call him or check him out." Post it in the comments section of local news feeds (maybe not the name and phone number--that would look like spamming).

Word gets around in police circles. I learned about that in the wake of an police encounter with a group of OCers, when the OCers raised a ruckus later, word filtered back that police in surrounding jurisdictions, and even firemen were being told not to mess OCers.

A little saturation campaign demonstrating readiness and intent to fight back might not be a bad idea to convince the bad apples to watch their step.

California. Oh, wait, Austin: never mind, that's the same thing.

How can you question this Officer?
All you have to do is look at the carnage in the 43 states that allow open carry now.
Anyone can plainly see open carry will equal death to the citizens of Texas.
