Welcome to OCDO!! (open carry dot org)

Sorry you got grief. In a way, you're not baptized until you do. So, now you're officially an OCer!
I'll make you an offer: I will argue and fight for all of your rights, if you will do the same for me. That is the only way freedom can work. We have to respect all rights, all the time--and strive to win the rights of the other guy as much as for ourselves.

If I am equal to another, how can I legitimately govern him without his express individual consent?

There is no human being on earth I hate so much I would actually vote to inflict government upon him.

Welcome to the forum! I'm always happy to see the ladies join us and spread the freedom of OC.

Just wanted to say welcome and I'm sure others familiar with state law or Kohl's policy will be along to address your specific matter.

Sounds like you got railroaded by Kohl's. Why did you go back?

Are you running an audio recorder when you OC? You should. Otherwise you can't address harassment.

Good for you OC-ing despite having a bit of a weenie for a husband, lol.

Contact Kohl's mgmt and give them the name of this 'manager' to have her counseled.

Good luck and welcome to OCDO.

welcome to the forum Milady, and deepdiver, apparently she is a cyclist...excellent.

my magick on al gores invention this morning is weak and the only thing i found searching for kohl's firearm policy was references to OC forum posting.

Ms Mullis, here is the link to kohl's executive management...do not try to discuss the issue with the peons in the store or across the counters...

    http://www.bloomberg.com/research/st...rivcapId=61243

without specifically stating you got ousted. just ask nicely in a letter to each of these individuals what company policy for carry of firearms in their stores. please do not mention oc or cc or the response will hone in on that subject alone to respond back to you. you just want to know if their stores follow state statutes.

of interest, kohl's exec for customer is an individual who worked for 16 years for starbucks before joining the kohl's exec mgmt team.

again welcome and perhaps the next time you wave at another on a scoot in passing we might have shared smiles.

Dian Mullis: unless you have knowledge of Kohl's policy with regard to firearms (and it seems you do because the store wasn't posted) please DO NOT start your fact-finding mission by writing letters.

Department stores aren't the same as places like Home Depot, where mostly manly men prowl the aisles, and state gun laws are followed. I think department store marketing people would say that they have more of an "air" about them than hardware stores.

As such, asking about their policy in the absence of signage could be just the catalyst they need to start a policy discussion which may result in signage - and I could certainly see them posting "No open carry" signage as a half-step.

The next time you shop there openly carrying, and are stopped by an associate who tells you that firearm carry/OC is "against policy", ask if the person is a manager, and assuming they aren't, ask nicely to see the policy - which more likely than not applies to employees only. If the individual becomes insistent, ask to see a manager.

This is where you get to use the fact that you're a woman in a largely woman's business! You're not some hulking guy with a sidearm in a department store, you're a Mom with her child - use it to your advantage as necessary.

Again, asking in writing about policy is one way to get the legal department in on things - and legal departments (as well as the sales department) are risk averse. If the visible carrying (or invisible carrying) of firearms is deemed to be a risk to the bottom line, a policy may very well be put into place. Don't be the catalyst for that initiative.

Just be careful not to get detained for trespass. Meaning, just talk nicely in a friendly way. If the store employee doesn't seem inclined to talk, I wouldn't push my luck. Or, at least securely store the gun and then come back to discuss it. The last thing you want is an annoyed, angry, or scared store employee calling police, and then you get arrested.

I'm more in favor of simply saying, "Oh, I'm sorry. I'll leave right now. Will you walk with me to the door?" And, then have any conversation about policy or talking to a manager while you're on your way out.

I agree with Citizen. Hand the guy your purchases and be sure and say "I'll be buying those diamond earrings down the street at (insert carry friendly jewelry store)".

I would not argue, or ask questions. On the other hand if they asked me 'are you (blah, blah, blah)', I'd just ignore them or maybe say "Sorry I don't have time to talk to you" and leave.

I don't like yuppie businesses, so I doubt we would be in Kohls much. But putting pressure on the companies has most times resulted in policy in favor of state law. We have been through this with several businesses. Even Target, Starbucks, Chipotle, and others did not ban guns, and made it very clear they would not trespass open carriers. I see nothing wrong with contacting corporate, and if they turn you away, give someone else your money.

LOL Kohl's as "yuppie business," from rural Wisconsin and competing with J. C. Penny's? Tsk tsk tsk. And I won't darken the doors of The Great Wal-Mart of China. What are we to do?

Max Kohl came to the proprietress of our 110 year old grocery for advice. She's 85 y.o. and still works eight hours each Tuesday and Thursday.

Start walking in the store looking for kids clothes, then some lady who works at Kohl's comes up behind me and says "Can I help you Ma'am?" and I say we are going to look kids clothes. She looks at my gun then back and me and says "You can't have that in here" and I say "Well I have my permit..." so she repeats herself again and then I say that it's also not posted on the door...so she says again that store policy is that it is not allowed...so I calmly say that I will put my firearm in my car and come back. So I do that then as I'm leaving I notice 2 of the cops are still in the parking lot hanging around, they watch me leave, then I'm pretty sure they left right after I did.

I really didn't appreciate being treated like that and this was the first time I've been confronted about my OC.

On the upside to things, I found this forum looking for the Kohl's policy and am glad to read of other people who OC. My husband was against me OCing but now he's getting used to it...he just thought I would get a lot of unwanted attention.

PS I had a chuckle when I read that other motorcycle riders also OC, I do too! ha!

First of all welcome. Second I would never mention signs unless they have the force of law in your state and even then only in the context of complaining to management about potentially being penalised for wanting to protect yourself. Third - boycott. Any establishment you are thrown out of for carrying or has no gun signs does not deserve your money

I'm not really sure, but it seems that your Kohl's problem is a local, specific store/specific employee issue. I've been OC in my local store (Sparks, NV) and haven't had any comment. I suggest asking to speak to a manager directly to verify the written policy for your area. 2acheck.com gives Kohl's an "A" grade for their corporate policy to allow weapons.

Welcome to OCDO. Nice to see another OC'er in MN. I'm from there originally and have a non-resident permit, though now live in the more gun friendly state of AZ. We will be in the Vadnais Heights area July 2-6 this year. PM me if you feel like putting together an OC event during that time frame.

Print out some of these NO GUNS = NO MONEY cards, in a similar situation hand the jerk a card and tell them not only will you not be back but you will advise all friends and family not to shop there either.

You can down load the file and change the wording to fit your state/situation

If you do get harassed again, asked to speak with the manager. I've never had a problem carrying in a Kohl's.
