Registration is about collecting taxes to pay for the roads. Titling was an anti theft measure but then turned into a fund raiser also.

Drivers lic. started out very simple but has became a lot more.

Once you give the government the power to regulate one gives up a lot of freedom.

A DL, the number printed on it is not far removed from a serial number tattooed on your forearm.

I wonder if those survivors, from long ago, would thank as US vet? I wonder if any foreigner, rescued from evil, would thank a US vet?

No burden on you is implied...this luxury you maintain is well deserved, a benefit of geography, nothing more.

Anything more to be added regarding the OP?

Back on topic, please.

Take Right to travel for instance.

I agree, it's a right. The government has no right to prevent any citizen from traveling.

Why do we need a drivers license to travel?

Oh yeah, not a Right.

No fly list, great idea. Is there due process? Transparency? An appeal process? Nope, nope, nope, nope.

NOLA: gov shoots people who travel. Now, is that a Right, or wrong? They were just... traveling.

We need a dl because the states violate our right to travel. Just because the state gets away with violating rights doesn't mean those rights dont exist. In a free republic, rights are not defined by the state.

Considering how many of our rights the state violates at will these days, isn't it a slap in the face to those veterans that fought in the war for independence that we've allowed our government to take on many of the attributes of the one they died fighting. That's certainly no way to thank them.
