I came across some sage advice in a series leveled to the person new to defensive carry. It is a short article and goes well with calming an FNG in their perception of "defense".

Their are other articles in the series, but I have not, yet, reviewed them.

The correct expression is “shoot to stop the threat.” That’s what you’re trying to do when you perforate a perp. You are NOT trying to commit homicide, however justifiable that goal may be. Even if you’re aiming at the bad guy’s head or shooting him or her point-blank. You are shooting to stop the threat. To make a violent attacker – or potential violent attacker – cease and desist. And you’re only doing so when you or other innocent life face an imminent threat of death or grievous bodily injury. If you use the word “kill” in a firearms-related comment on the Internet, to friends or acquaintances with loose lips or, God forbid, to the police, you are . . ..............

Of late I have seen some mildly rabid Open Carriers making rash statements. First Amendment Rules, yippie ki yay!! Remember this..........nothing, and I mean nothing ever "goes away" on the internet.

Stopping the threat.

Sometimes just drawing the firearm will stop the threat
Sometimes pointing it at the person will stop the threat
Sometimes shooting them will stop the threat.

This can be a dangerous thread. I personally will shoot to kill if I ever have to do it.

and you have now provided fodder, on a public forum and for all eternity, to the prosecutor to use against you in a judicial situation in the event you are involved in a SD event...

good job...

hint you might wish to ask the moderator to delete your inflammatory comments to reflect...you would shoot to defend you and your loved one's lives or to shoot to stop the threat...

Yeah, I am not worried. The court system is really easy to manipulate in your favor. It's all about wording, not facts.

ok then...

brings to mind the proverb uttered by Henry Kett, 1814: ...observed the eminent lawyer, "I hestitate not to pronounce, that every man who is his own lawyer, has a fool for a client.

Don't let your hubris get the best of you.The court is favored toward the prosecutor, the judge and cops. There are innocent people in prison who thought they could outsmart the system. There are a lot more crooks who thought the same.

I'm glad a found this before I renewed my pre-paid legal service.

So if it ever happens and I go to court I just need to state in a firm and victorious voice that what I did was totally legal and that the facts be damned, thrown down the microphone and walk out the front door a free man.

Yeah, same thing with casinos: Their systems are really easy to manipulate in your favor. That is why there are so many casino funded millionaires walking around.

In truth, whether a casino or a courtroom, the odds are always stacked in favor of the house. Your Fifth Amendment right is the only equalizer you have.

I highly recommend this video, at least through the first speaker. Best investment of 25 minutes that you can make.
