Nice.

Are you planning on changing the grip panels?

Actually already did, it had crusty rosewood. I cleaned them up and used linseed oil to spruce them up, but couldn't resist the Altamont grip panels. Lett grips are the best looking rubber grips I have seen. If it had those ugly Houge grips I would have coughed up the 45 bucks for the Letts, panels were only 25 bucks.

One of the reasons I backed off buying a Colt Trooper for $550 was the ugly pachmayr grips on it. It also had the blue destroyed, but I could have rust blued it. Colt Trooper/Python grips are pricey.

That green glow you see to the north is my envy.

<drool, drool>

:D

If Ruger ever makes a 3" GP100 with adjustable sights, or even a 3" SP101 with adjustable sights, I'm gonna deviate from my retirement planning.

30 years ago I had a S&W model 19 with the 2.5 inch barrel, seems I paid two and a quarter for it. Like many guns I got talked out of it by a buddy that just had to have it. I really wish they would bring them back.

I'm not sure which is worse, the photo of the GP100 or your mention of a Colt Python.

I'll take some solace in the fact that the GP100 is a .38 Spl and not a .357 Mag. :p:)

You can be sure that I am now on my way to the Ruger website to see their latest offerings in GP100.

ETA: Hey! I see Ruger is offering the SP101 with a 4" barrel and adjustable sights. I wonder if I can get a good gunsmith to swap the 4" barrel for a 3" barrel.

Anything is possible, 30 years ago I bought a recovered model 28 from a corrections guard. Had a old gunsmith switch the barrel and cylinder for 44 special. Because the gun had got some rust before it was recovered I rust blued it to a nice satin finish. But like the model 19 I got talked out of it for a profit.

I would imagine the barrels could be switched on either the GP100, or the SP101. Just need to put on taller front sights.

BTW the 38spl GP100s were limited runs for police depts, and security they tend to bring a higher price with collectors. Plus the gun is identical to the 357, only the cylinder bore is different to keep officers from using 357. They will shoot 38/44 loads just fine, I have it loaded with mild 38/44 Keith load. I could push it to 357 performance but I like mine somewhere between +P and full bore 38/44.

After you finished helping build the pyramids, what line of work did you go into?

:p:D

LOL~~~I spent a good amount of my time reading stories about Keith, and Skelton, plus a few others. I think Skeeter made the biggest impression on me growing up.

BTW I noticed that S&W is selling a 3 inch L frame with adjustable sights, and it is 7 shot. It's not for the faint of heart price wise, but I came across one on backpage.com for $500. I didn't call about it though, the ball, and chain is talking about getting another car, this time a Mercedes. I am going to check with the dealer this W/E to see if they still have it.
