McMorris settles false arrest suit for $35k

I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm still waiting for the malicious prosecution suit against the Genesee County Persecuting Attorney.

That ****sucker David Leyton took him to trial on felony charges, charges so baseless that the judge issued a directed verdict after the prosecution rested its case, to harass him for filing a civil suit against the police.

(Leyton filed the charges AFTER McMorris sued the cops, should be removed from office and disbarred)

Amen to that. If this isnt a case a malicious prosecution and abuse of authority, I dont know what is.

From the first article:
"Township police Chief George Sippert declined to comment on the settlement and directed questions to attorney G. Gus Morris, who represented the officer and department in the case.

Morris said the township continues to stand behind the legitimacy of Fries' stop but its insurance provider, which is paying*the agreement, decided to settle to offset further costs.

"It was more of forgoing the cost of further litigation," Morris said of the settlement."



So at the end of the day, the settlement isn't directly costing the badged thug (the Rights-violating LEO) nor the Rights-trampling attorney a dime, nor will they admit to any wrongdoing.
Looks like they are more than happy to maintain the status quo...

Any future settlement should have a clause for further damages if a department continues to claim no wrong doing. I doubt they would agree to a guilty statement but I'd be happy enough to take away the ability to deny guilt.
