To put this drive-by posting in context:

Scotts Valley [CA] City Council voted 5 to 0 to deny Ordinance No 189 [a proposed ordinance for] (gun store licensing) in a victory for gun owners and free enterprise. The Chief of Police was completely discredited as was SVPD Lt. Wilson (above center, named as the proposal’s author). NO gun store owners were contacted prior to putting the matter before Council. The Chief claimed that an April 2015 attempted gun store burglary supported the notion that gun stores are criminal targets and they lack adequate security because the store’s alarm wasn’t triggered . . .

The store’s owner, Lee Ewing, completely refuted the Chief’s claims. Facts: all 15-20 stores in complex were hit; burglars broke open a wall, but retreated when they saw alarm, failed to gain entry or take anything from gun store. Security is better than PD’s gun and evidence lockers. Police never inspected the store.

The police department claimed that the proposal “grandfathered in” existing stores, but were forced to concede that new requirements (including zoning) would need to be met upon sale or transfer of the store.

TL/DR version - Scotts Valley PD used the attempted burglary of a local gun store as the basis for trying to force existing and future gun stores to have special licenses that would include security provisions possibly/probably higher than those existing in the PD's evidence lock-up.

Bottom line? Scotts Valley City Council has their collective heads screwed on properly and is not suffering from individual or collective rectocranial inversion. Also willing to join the citizens in spanking the PD publicly.

They win an "Atta Boy!"

stay safe.

Well this is convoluted logic. How do these brains even operate on a daily basis? 15 to 20 shops are burgled so more draconian laws. The gun shop foiled the attempt and they get the heat, go figure?

If we cannot make more laws to make what the crooks do illegal (illegaler? even more illegaler?) then maybe we can fix things by blaming the victims for not making it harder for the crooks to commit crimes.

It seems to be the standard response to anything to do with guns.

stay safe.
