    Toddler shoots grandmother in back

Toddler finds gun in car, shoots grandmother in back

    ROCK HILL, SC (WBTV) -
"A Rock Hill grandmother is recovering after police say a 2-year-old boy found a gun inside a car and shot her in the back.

Officers met with a woman who says she picked up her great-nephew and was driving him around, with his grandmother in the passenger seat.

While she was driving, the young boy found a .357 revolver in the pouch on the back of the passenger seat. He then accidentally shot his 40-year-old grandmother through the passenger seat."

Child not properly restrained in baby seat? Did vehicle owner/driver know her gun was there?

Lots of questions - no answers yet. Could be more to this story.

The thought occurs to me, why drive to a family members house before calling for help. Was there another person in the back seat and the blame shifted to the child?

Is surprising to me that a 2 yo could retain a grip on a .357 mag, especially if loaded with full power loads.

Yep - lots of questions still.

Will the news cover the gunshot residue test of the toddler? The particle field differential will establish where the gun was when it was fired and whether the toddler was in the field and was the gun in the toddlers hands.

I disbelieve that a toddler could hold and trigger a two pound double action gun.

40 y/o grandmother of a two y/o...a mere stones throw from the megalopolis of Charlotte NC.

I grew up in Rock Hill. Spent 18+ years of my life there. I'll never go back if I can help it, except to visit my parents.

The article provided a rough location where the cops met the injured "granny." The street view map was provided to give the reader a sense of the of the neighborhood. Neither a bad thing or good thing...folks from SC, or long time residents, should "recognize" this type of neighborhood and what it once was and what it likely is now. Mixed racially, economically not so much, with folks who care about their property and their neighbors.

The ambiance is not that bad, seen worse in Kingstree and Florence, even Lake City has better neighborhoods than the area in the article.

I blame North Carolina and specifically those yankee bankers from New York City who moved to Charlotte and done ruint the place. The Catawba River ain't that big a barrier to keep the yankees out.
