Police: Pastor shoots, kills attacker in church

A Detroit church service turned tragic today when a man with a brick went after the pastor, but likely didn’t anticipate what would follow: the pastor pulled out a semiautomatic pistol and fatally shot the man, police said.

    Pastor remains in custody.

When I first read it, I wondered if deadly force was absolutely necessary at the time the trigger was pulled.

Regardless of whose baby it was, and despite the possibility that a little violation of commandments VII and X might be going on, doesn't give the attacker the right to come at someone with a brick. I think the pastor was right in this, even though it adds commandment VI to his uh-oh list.
Guard with jealous attention the public liberty.
Suspect everyone who approaches that jewel.
Unfortunately, nothing will preserve it but downright force.
Whenever you give up that force, you are inevitably ruined.

Hey! Quit tryin' to get me arrested!
I'll make you an offer: I will argue and fight for all of your rights, if you will do the same for me. That is the only way freedom can work. We have to respect all rights, all the time--and strive to win the rights of the other guy as much as for ourselves.

If I am equal to another, how can I legitimately govern him without his express individual consent?

There is no human being on earth I hate so much I would actually vote to inflict government upon him.

A citizen should not live in a glass house - makes everything visible to others.

Technically it is a "The officer was justified...but, we'll go ahead and investigate anyway. Why, cuz it is a little box on the report that needs to be checked, a administrative exercise, nothing more."

What on earth are you referring to? Chesterfield PD? Is there a Chesterfield PD in Detroit? anti-LEO? Where? Are you in the wrong thread?

Well, is he in the right, or did he violate the do not murder clause?

Bricklayer's cousin says Pastor was Bricklayer's mentor?

    http://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/201...ing-assailant/

The rumors kind of remind me of the Pastor in "M*A*S*H Goes to Maine", whom a parishioner found 'marriage counseling' his wife and ended the counseling session by sticking a miniature flagpole in his chest. The minister and his wife did so much 'marriage counseling' around the town that they were responsible for about half the gonorrhea cases in the area.

You are 100% correct and there is enough evidence to think the Pastor set the guy up for this confrontation prior to it happening, this is why he was arrested.
