Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe (D) signed an executive order on 15 October 2015 purportedly banning the open carry of properly holstered handguns in so-called "state offices." The Commonwealth's Governor, who serves under a state flag proclaiming sic semper tyrannis, a latin phrase for "thus always to tyrants" and invoked historically as a rallying cry against abuse of power, promised that more executive orders restricting gun rights are on the way.
While Old Dominion citizens wait for the 'fine print' and legal analysis as to what, if any, penalty arises from entering a state office while peaceably armed, examiner.com's review of 2015 Brady Campaign data shows that Virginia's gun laws actually become less permissive this year compared to other states like Arkansas, Kansas, and Maine whose legislatures voted to repeal prohibitions against carrying handguns without a license.
