An Italian mayor would help people buy a gun for their defense against criminals.

I believe that there is a significant bureaucratic cost to Italian gun ownership, cost in time, money and freedom from government interference.

My Italiano is a little rusty...

Google loves me, this I know.

Here is a guide that will help you find all the information regarding the main requirements relating to common firearms (rifles and pistols) for personal use, sports and hunting, how and to whom to submit an application, which documents are needed and etc.

In this context, I am therefore not taken into consideration other types of weapons, such as from war or explosives.

    new

Legislative Decree 29 September 2013, n. 121 on "Measures supplementing and Legislative Decree 26 October 2010, n. 204, on the implementation of Directive 2008/51 / EC, amending Directive 91/477 / EEC on control of the acquisition and possession of weapons ", published in the Official Gazette of the Italian Republic. 247 of 21 October 2013 and in force since November 5, 2013, has provided, in Article. 6, paragraph 2, against mere "holders" the obligation to present - one off - the medical certificate, currently art. 35, paragraph seven of TULPS, within eighteen months from the date of entry into force of the d. lgs. under consideration, ie by May 4, 2015.

In addition, paragraph 2 provides for them that, after eighteen months, it is always possible for the person concerned, submit a medical certificate within thirty days of receipt of notice from the Public Security Bureau responsible.
Therefore, by next May 4, 2015, the subjects arms holders must produce a medical certificate provided for the issuance of the authorization to purchase / possession of weapons, under Article 35 of the Consolidated Laws of Public Safety, unless It has not already been produced in the six years preceding the date of November 5, 2013 (as in the case of holders of license to carry firearms in the course of validity).
The medical certificate in question was issued by the provincial medical officer or health (currently ASL) or by a military doctor; the same must show that the applicant is not suffering from mental illnesses or defects which decrease, even temporarily, the ability of consent.
The applicant, submit to an investigation, shall submit a certified medical history, released by the medical officer, not older than three months.
The doctor may ask the investigating, where necessary, more specific tests or specialist consultations, to be made at public health facilities.
It 'clear that the private holder of weapons will spontaneously provide the certificate in question to the appropriate office of public security, ie without waiting for the decision of formal notice by the office itself.

    Personal Defence

Allows the port of the weapon out of his house and valid for one year. For the defense, there are also information on spray anti-aggression

    Sports use
It allows to exercise the shooting and shooting

    Using hunting
Authorize the port of rifle for hunting in the opening season of the hunting season

    Complaint holding and disposal
To be presented when it is in possession or surrender weapons and cartridges

    Authorization to buy
It needs to buy firearms and ammunition and to transport them to their home

    License for collection
Allows the detention, but not the port, of short and long arms, in number than that normally permitted

    European Charter
Extending the validity of authorizations granted in Italy to the countries of the European Community

    Card authentication, recognition
It used to transport the weapons from Sections shooting place of detention and vice versa

    Circulars and Documents
    stay safe.

I'm of a mind to write to this mayor in support of his efforts, but I wouldn't know where to start searching for either a suitable e-mail or snail-mail address.

Ah! More than Mayor, Gianluca Buonanno is Member EU Parliament - MEP!
Buonanno, who serves as an MEP, has also asked the European Commission to set up a similar fund. The €250 being offered is about 30 per cent of the cost of a small pistol in Italy, according to La Repubblica.

The announcement of the fund comes three months after residents of an Italian province were told they can have a bottle of wine before driving and keep their licence.

Carlo Sessa, the prefect of Avellino in the south of the country, introduced new rules which mean drivers who have consumed eight glasses - about one bottle - could only be fined £560.

The move has been slammed by road safety groups who say it sends the message that it is 'OK to drive drunk'. (From the Daily Mail link above)
I don't know if the Daily Mail used the '£' meaning Pounds or Lira, but once upon a time there were more than IT£1000 to US$1.00

    Grazie mille!
