    Austrian Firearm Shortage

The top link is an Austrian news channel. You'll have to translate it, and the Google program sucks. So, the highlights as I think I've figured them out...

The nation is running out of shotguns, and pistol courses that were once held every five weeks, now are held every week. Mostly women buying the firearms and taking the classes.

    From the Fox article...

Austria has about 8.5 million people, with around 900k firearms in households. Sales are up by about 70k from the same time last year.

An upswing in firearm interest not just here in the US but globally it seems.
Guard with jealous attention the public liberty.
Suspect everyone who approaches that jewel.
Unfortunately, nothing will preserve it but downright force.
Whenever you give up that force, you are inevitably ruined.

From the article and the Austria Wikipedia entry:

Austrians bought 70,000 more weapons than over the same period last year. Almost 900,000 in private homes, in a population of 8.6 million.

The state of Upper Austria has 157,000 weapons and nearly 44,000 owners among 1.5 million population. Permit classes are being held weekly rather than each five weeks.

Lower Austria has 250,000 weapons among almost 66,000 owners and 1.6 million population.

Tyrol and Salzburg are also states, though their weapons concentration is not mentioned.

Austria ranks twelfth in the world in guns per capita, with 30.4/100 (compared with US 112.6/100)
