Majority of D.C. residents back gun ban in city: WaPo poll

Just over half of D.C. residents would support the return of a gun ban in the nation’s capital, with affluent white residents more likely to support a ban than black residents who live in areas of the city with higher crime rates, according to a new poll.

A survey released Thursday by The Washington Post shows that 51 percent of the 1,005 D.C. residents polled would support making it illegal to own any gun in the city. According to the poll, 47 percent opposed banning gun ownership and 3 percent had no opinion on the matter.

WaPo's headline, Residents say crime is Washington’s No. 1 problem, poll finds

After a year in which homicides have spiked, fewer D.C. residents said their neighborhood is safe, the poll found. After high-profile attacks that have rattled neighborhoods from Chevy Chase in upper Northwest to Anacostia in Southeast, 1 in 4 respondents said they feel “not too” safe or “not at all” safe in their communities, up from less than 1 in 5 in 2011. More than 1 in 3 said crime is the biggest problem facing the city, up from 12 percent four years ago.

Fortunately, as we've all recently learned primarily from the political left in the definition of marriage debate, "Constitutional rights are not up for a vote."

Interesting among which demographics support for infringements of RKBA are highest, however.

"Democrats make up 75 percent of the registered voters in the District of Columbia, while 7 percent are registered with the Republican Party (represented by the District of Columbia Republican Committee), 1 percent with the D.C. Statehood Green Party, and 17 percent with no party or other."

Still I tend to agree with your "win" statement.

So we, you and I, are the exceptions? I am rich by any measure, merely not extremely rich. I have won the lottery once - life's lottery - and have every intention of winning the lottery again.

I agree! Hopefully this is a good indication of what is going on across America. I know we constantly hear the call for more gun laws, but could it be the vocal minority that has the MSM support in getting their message out?
