The other day I was at a local grocery store doing some light shopping. As I was coming out of the aisle I almost collided with an elderly gentleman who was looking the opposite direction I was coming from. Obviously, he and I came to a sudden stop just short of hitting each other. As I began to apologize for almost mowing him over, I noticed he was OCing, and it was obvious that he noticed I was as well (I could tell by the slight twinge of a smile when he looked up from my holstered firearm). A short and I might add pleasant conversation ensued, regarding OC and how it would be something if more people would start doing it. His firm belief, as is mine, was that if more firearm owners would open carry, a couple of things could happen, 1st being exposing people to the fact that there are a lot of good people out there who carry firearms, and the second being that by seeing someone responsibly carrying might actually provoke some good conversation with others who might be fearful of the gun because they know nothing about them.
We agreed that a lot if people might tend to become more gun friendly if they had an opportunity to speak with a firearm owner who was willing to talk about it. Educating the masses, in my opinion would probably help turn many of those who are unsure about guns to our side.
As the conversation was coming to an end, I asked the gentleman if he had served in the armed forces, to which he responded that he did two tours of duty in the army. I thanked him for his service and for taking time to stop and chat with me at which point we parted ways.
That sure made my day a little brighter.
Just wanted to share that little encounter.
