The idiot looked kind of old to be a kid. Sadly, there is no cure for stupid. This moron will sit in jail for 60 days blaming the judge rather than examining his own behavior and accepting responsibility for his situation.

So you think that being imprisoned for such a minor thing is OK ?

It did not stop the court from conducting its business.

Being stupid is not a crime.

An expressed opinion of the judge is protected speech. He was no longer in court (the hallway), he as any one else can express their opinion. The First Amendment was designed for just this type of offensive vebal expression. The judge is an immature, petty individual and maybe he should spend sometime in jail for violating his oath.

A criminal contempt is an allegation made by a criminal complaint. A judge cannot preside over his own complaint. There must be a trial. Also, all contempt charges (civil or criminal) must allowed to be purged. This guy will not spend one day in jail for this contempt.

The rules of contempt cover all the courthouse property. This was in ear shot of the judge.

Story please.

The judge had to allow the purge right then and there. Not the next day.

quote (Judge) Stevens had Satterly brought before him again on Tuesday, with his attorney present. He lectured Satterly on proper court conduct and the inappropriateness of using racial slurs, accepted his apology and reduced his 60-day contempt sentence to time served. unquote

one of the articles stated the defendant uttered the words as he was being escorted out the room by deputies after his attorney left...
