Facebook To End Private Gun Sales On Facebook And Instagram, will rely on squealers

Facebook will rely on users to report content that violates the new policy. By Rose Pastore

Facebook on Friday changed its policy to ban all private sales of guns through its platforms, said Shannon Watts, founder of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America. Facebook will rely on users to report content that violates the new policy, Watts told Fast Company.

"In this country, we know that 40% of gun sales are through unlicensed dealers, without background checks," Watts said, noting that licensed dealers, such as Dick's Sporting Goods, would still be allowed to advertise guns on Facebook. She pointed out, however, that "licensed dealers don't sell on Facebook."

    The responses have been hilarious.

People posting pictures of Mt. Dew for sale next to a Glock advertising the soda for 500 bucks....and so on.

I'm always a bit suspicious of Facebook.

An article I read several years ago pointed out that on Facebook, you are the product.

Separately, within the last few weeks, I saw an article (linked on Fourthamendment.com?) that said one (California?) police department regularly trawls social media looking for potential crimes.

Remember Prof. James Duane's video about not talking to police? One his eight reasons was because there are 10K ways a person could unknowingly implicate himself in some sort of criminal action? Its one thing for the No Such Agency to monitor every single electronic communication "to catch terrorists". Its something else entirely to post something on Facebook, etc. and suddenly find yourself being investigated by the local PD. Give it a few years for it to spread. Won't be long after that before a hint of the possibility of a crime gets you investigated. For example, did you mention on Facebook that you have to take a lot of pain meds? Or, did you mention going with the family on that ski trip? But, you're temporarily on disability for that back injury. You forgot to mention on Facebook that you'll be sitting inside the ski lodge while everybody else is out skiing. Oh, well. Too bad. Here comes the investigation for a fraudulent disability claim.

Then there's that business back in the oughts when telecom companies were illegally turning over vast amounts of subscriber data to the fedgov snoops. Congress passed a retroactive law legalizing what the telecoms did. I have little doubt Facebook, etc. would roll over in a heart beat if law enforcement came along wanting entire history on a member.

I'll make you an offer: I will argue and fight for all of your rights, if you will do the same for me. That is the only way freedom can work. We have to respect all rights, all the time--and strive to win the rights of the other guy as much as for ourselves.

If I am equal to another, how can I legitimately govern him without his express individual consent?

There is no human being on earth I hate so much I would actually vote to inflict government upon him.

There was a rare interview w Matt Drudge I saw last month - he talks about FB, Google/Alphabet, etc controlling the platform - and that you have t/b wary of living in their world - where it can be arbitrarily changed at a whim.

Similar to the increasing illegal control of Feds in unConstituional areas - like healthcare - don't eat right, or smoke, or drink - we can prevent you from getting surgery or medicine.

A trend to be mindful of and vigilant against.

I should think you'd be appalled at people so obviously and knowing violating a voluntary agreement with a private property owner.

I, however, do find it laudable when people peacefully show disdain for such bigoted and discriminatory business practices.

Obama's White House won't Earnestly say if it's behind Facebook gun ban

The White House on Monday refused to say whether Facebook's recent decision to ban users from facilitating the sale of guns, parts and ammunition was the result of pressure from the Obama administration.
