Well, someone finally did it. They mashed archery with bb/paintball tech and now we have the Pioneer Airbow from Crosman. What, you may be asking, is an airbow? Well, its simple. It's a weapon that uses arrows, pneumatically fired, in a rifle style housing.

An interesting concept, for sure. And from the videos (edited for time, obviously) powerful enough to take down a Cape Buffalo in two shots with arrows traveling at around 450 FPS. Want one? Well, it's slightly cheaper than some of the Mathews bows, coming in at $850. But you'll have to wait, it doesn't ship till April. You can pre-order from the Crosman website and get an extra half dozen arrows.

The real kicker? It's already been deemed illegal for hunting in Virginia.

Looks like a step backward from the LaRue conversion for the Ruger 10/22 which uses firearm blanks in a much more compact and traditional-looking package. But some may prefer the pneumatic design as it might not be a "firearm" in their state.

Either would be legal in Nevada, but in the firearm season only, not the archery season, for big game.

PSE

I know the PSE zips it in @ 100+yds

PSE slower reload .. thats what's nice about the pioneer

PSE cost to shoot is basically free but for arrows that get damaged or lost

I guess I'm excited again.

Silent kills is a positive ...
