My wife and I are driving down to Mississippi from Ohio and this will be my first multi state open carry trip. I've checked each States laws extensively, Kentucky Tennessee, Mississippi, but it's a bit weird being out of my Ohio comfort zone. I don't anticipate any trouble though as we will only be stopping at truck stops for gas and such and maybe some sporting goods stores. Anyway.. Just thought I'd share..no reason in particular

Caleb, a suggestion...buy yourself a small lock box and keep it open in the vehicle so you might lock up your firearms if you begin to feel uncomfortable.

I keep one for when I have to disarm...but I would just cover it up. I do have a conceal permit

then, what are you nervous about...the lock box is to keep nice LE's prying eyes in alignment and off your personal body...

I've been nervous too for open carrying in states I've never been too. Yes it maybe legal, but considering I've never been there and don't know what kind of reactions I will get is what makes it slightly nervous.

You'll be fine so long as you follow the law for each state you travel through. What I do is get a printout (from an official state sponsored page) of each state's laws governing carry of firearms. This way I'm not working from memory or hoping I have mobile data to look things up on the road. I have a folder that I keep close by (usually in my backpack in the back seat) and passages highlighted that I feel may be more useful while traveling vs just being a resident of the state. You already have the lockbox which is good but I'd also bring an empty ammo box (or one of the reloader boxes) so that if you travel through a state that requires the mags are unloaded, you have a safe place to put the loose ammo. And last but not least, make sure you drive lawfully and that your vehicle is street legal. Sucks to go through all the trouble of lawful carry just to get pulled over for speeding or a taillight out.

Safe travels!

I've done it to/from Dallas to VA and found it t/b not an issue. Can't say that anyone ever said anything or noticed.
Even having Saturday breakfast w the OC guys in Richmond - don't think they said anything about it either...

Flying in to DC reagan from Dallas, the desk agent didn't have any issue w checking my gun (in a pelican box) either.
Along w that subject (off topic here), last week flying back from OC John Wayne (Orange County...) I did see a guy wanting to
check his gun only in a pelican box - not nested in any other luggage - that seemed t/b a problem - SWAir didn't want to have the
little box getting lost/misplaced between there & Dallas.
