ATF Warns FFLs of Phone Scam

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) has issued an advisory describing a phone scam in which licensed retailers are called by an individual posing as a police officer who requests a transfer of funds so that stolen and recovered firearms can be returned. ATF reports it is only aware of a few instances of these calls, but requests any FFL that has been so contacted to call the appropriate field office or ATF’s Joint Support & Operations Center at (800) 800-3855 or (202) 648-7200.
