Something to consider when renewing your CCL

My concealed carry license was set to expire in November and a little over a week ago I received a letter from the DOJ reminding me to renew with some directions on how to renew the license online.

So within a day or two I went on line and jumped through the hoops and paid my $22 to ply my rights for another five years.

Six days later my new plastic permission slip arrives and I notice it now expires on July 22nd 2021.

For being on the ball and renewing right away I lost 4 months of my time to exercise my rights which I had already paid for. WTF?

Had I known that I would have waited till October or November to renew.

    Virginia had a similar problem.

    Corrected it this way:
    Permit Renewal Section 18.2-308.010 --snipped--

If the new five-year permit is issued while an existing permit remains valid, the new five-year permit shall become effective upon the expiration date of the existing permit, provided that the application is received by the court at least 90 days but no more than 180 days prior to the expiration of the existing permit.

I paid the $8 to change my address on my CCL, when I moved, to get a new card. It's not required in WI, but I wanted an up to date card. New card came back with my correct address, but my birthdate was now incorrect.

Mulled over what to do now? Ended up doing nothing and decided that my response when asked why birthday on CCL is different than on Driver's License is going to be; Because the DOJ hires incompetent people. Yet to find out how that will work.

Have not shown my CCL to anyone in the time I have had it, and have no plans to show it to anyone while OC. If you want to "ply your rights" in Wisconsin, that would be open carry. I get that you say that tongue in cheek, as is my reply. Conceal Carry is an infringed right as of now, otherwise known as a privilege, as viewed by the State anyway. I see you go back and forth in your post between plying your rights, a permission slip, and rights. It is a bit unclear and convoluted it seems.

I am sure DOJ is trying to spread out the rush of renewals but to lose 4 months is wrong.

Renewal Eligibility - A Wisconsin concealed carry license is eligible for renewal up to 120 days prior to its expiration date and 90 days after its expiration date. A licensee is ineligible to renew their license outside of that timeframe.

Meh, happens in MO too. Even waiting until a month out I have lost a month each renewal cycle.

Contact your state representatives office and tell him about how the state is stealing peoples money.. ask for his help in correcting this inequity. If he is a gun grabber then chew his arse and call him a thief outright and let him know of your displeasure. Then call some other more sympathetic legislator and ask for their help. Let it be known that what the state is doing is theft.
