Start calling AR's single shot rifles ?

They are single shot guns .. one shot=1 trigger pull.

Calling them single-shot rifles will clarify this point to members of the public who otherwise have no clue.

I appreciate your intent, but...

Anything with a feeding mechanism from a magazine is a repeater, still opposed to an automatic.

They are "repeaters" only because people who knew enough about firearms wanted a term that distinguished them from muzzle-loaders and hand-reloaded cartridge firearms. Probably a sales tactic. But, that in no way enjoins us from re-directing the term to bring about understanding for those who don't know.

I like McBeth's idea. From now on, I will be referring to semi-automatic weapons as one-shot guns to the uninitiated.

For newbies .. I think "repeater" would be confusing. One shot rifle is accurate and distinguishable from automatic even to the untrained ear.

I'll be using the phrase instead of "repeater" or "semi-automatic" (which sounds like "automatic") to the untrained ear (like, what a person has to operate it manually vs. it being an automated system?)
