Another jerk whose arrogance exceeds his intellect. "I can just up and invent my own policies, regardless of the precedent they set."Coach Stoops said: I’ve made it very clear to them that I do not want them owning a handgun, even if they have a legal permit for it. They obviously can never have a handgun on campus, but I make it my policy to tell them no guns and come explain to me why they may need a gun because we definitely should not need a gun living in Lexington, Kentucky. So, that’s my policy.
Coach Stoop might as well also say, "I don't care if the kid gets killed in a home invasion or robbery while disarmed under my policy. I don't have to think this through to the same degree I think about the plays and strategy in the game against OU or the Cornhuskers. Certainly, I am capable of thinking way past the obvious--I do it regularly when reviewing films of other squads and their plays. But, on life-and-death questions like possessing the means of self-defense, I can just wing it, because, you know, I get to make that call over the lives of other adults."
That comment about telling them to come explain why they need a gun is a peach. The underlying premise is that he gets to decide whether their reason is "good enough". As in he gets to decide. Not them. Suuuuuuuure. Arrogant jerk. Just sets himself up as the arbiter of whether another human being deserves the right to defend the lives of self and loved ones. Of course, he's lying. He's already decided those kids don't have the right. So, the invitation to an explanation is fake. No matter what the kid says, no matter who good his explanation, Coach Stoop has already decided it is "not good enough."
