Katie Couric sued for $12M for edits in anti-gun documentary by VCDL, D. Hawes

The Virginia Citizens Defense League (VCDL) and two gun-rights activists featured in the film, Daniel Hawes and Patricia Webb, are suing Ms. Couric, who produced the documentary and led the interview in question, as well as director Stephanie Soechtig, Atlas Films and Epix, the films distributor.

    From Va-Alert dated today

    Ladies and Gentlemen:

Today, VCDL sued Katie Couric and other responsible parties for the film Under the Gun for defamation in Federal District Court in Richmond, Virginia!

As you have probably heard and has been widely reported in the media, the "documentary" contains manipulated footage that makes it look like we were stumped by a question on background checks, when in reality, we immediately began responding. Im attaching a press release about the lawsuit, and answering some questions you may have about it below.

Q: Why did the VCDL file this lawsuit?

    · Its the only way to hold Couric and her people accountable.

    · Couric has publicly admitted that the film was misleading and misrepresented the VCDL, but the filmmakers refuse to fix it or to stop promoting and distributing it.

Q: What does the VCDL hope to accomplish with the lawsuit?

    · Hold the filmmakers accountable for misleading audiences and misrepresenting us.

    · Compensate the VCDL and the VCDL members who were harmed by the film.

    · Set the record straight.

    · Advance our mission to defend your right to defend yourself.

Q: How is the VCDL paying for the lawsuit?

    · Member contributions.

    · Please consider making a contribution to help hold Couric accountable and to help the VCDL defend your right to defend yourself. Unfortunately, filing such a lawsuit is expensive, but we simply cannot let this manipulation and intentional misrepresentation stand!

Q: Where can I get more information?

    · To compare the manipulated video footage and the unedited audio recording, and learn more about the case, click here:

Even a modest fraction of the $12M would make a very significant bump in the budgets of most State level pro-RKBA organizations. It would be the richest of ironies and wonderful karma if Couric's dishonest attack on RKBA and the intelligence and character of RKBA supporters ultimately ended up helping to fund advancement of our rights to an effective self-defense.

Some material disincentive for the media to ever again engage in such despicable tactics would be a nice side benefit.

Best of luck to VCDL and the other plaintiffs.

    VCDL doesn't play.

They'll do to her finances (and what's left of her reputation), what the Army engineers did to the Japanese in Ft. Drum in Manila Bay.

Proving once again that lying liberal media can do and get away with anything, John Gibney Jr. dismissed the suit.

What a shame that judges do the wrong thing for political reasons.
The First protects the Second, and the Second protects the First. Together, they protect the rest of our Bill of Rights and our United States Constitution, and help We the People protect ourselves in the spirit of our Declaration of Independence.
