Esteban Santiago has been identified as the gunman who opened fire at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, according to Senator Bill Nelson of Florida. Nelson told MSNBC that Santiago had a military ID and handgun with him when he shot up the baggage claim, killing several people and wounding more.

Thank goodness it was not a Islamic terrorist.

Court records show that Santiago had minor brushes with the law when he lived in Alaska, including a $1,000 fine for driving without insurance and another infraction for driving with broken tail lights.

Well, now they'll push that if you get a no insurance ticket or drive with broken tail light then no gat for you.

Or Time to pass that salty weapons ban in FL.

What is the law on carrying outside the TSA areas in an Florida airport? Could the people that were there to retrieve luggage have been armed or were they disarmed by the state and left defenseless?
Necessity is the plea for every infringement of human freedom. It is the argument of tyrants; it is the creed of slaves.

    William Pitt

"If ye love wealth greater than liberty, the tranquility of servitude greater than the animating contest for freedom, go home from us in peace. We seek not your counsel, nor your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you; May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen."

    Samuel Adams

I can foresee this tragedy changing the method of transporting a hand gun.. While the transporting of a weapon may be OK, the transporting of ammunition along with said weapon will not be allowed..

At the very time gun hating liberals across the nation are working to make purchase of ammunition as difficult as purchase of a gun itself. That makes lawful transportation of a gun for short personal or business trips pretty much worthless.

    How very convenient.

Never mind that the suspect violated existing Florida law (as cited by 2OLD2W8 for us) about being armed inside the airport. Never mind that he might just as easily have walked in off the street armed (in violation of the same Florida law) rather than arriving via a flight and retrieving his guns from his checked luggage.

Never let a good crisis go to waste.

My standard question remains however: How many of the victims were armed and able to effectively defend themselves?

I'm guessing a whole number less than 1.

Active duty, mental health issues, CP but insufficient evidence

    He also had military experience.

His aunt, according to nj.com, said after a tour of duty in Iraq, he “lost his mind” and was hospitalized at one point for mental health issues. He was given an honorable discharge from the Alaska National Guard for performance-related issues.

In November 2016, he walked into an FBI office in Anchorage claiming that he was being forced to fight for ISIS and was sent to a psychiatric hospital, officials revealed.

In 2011 or 2012, he was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations for child porn. Three weapons and a computer were seized, but there was not enough evidence to prosecute, according to law enforcement sources.

National CBS news is reporting differently:
    http://www.cbsnews.com/news/esteban-...oting-suspect/

Santiago-Ruiz served in the Alaska Air National Guard, a spokesperson confirmed to CBS News. He received a general discharge for unsatisfactory performance in August 2016. According to the Alaska Air National Guard, Santiago-Ruiz joined the Puerto Rico in December 2007, and served with that unit in Iraq from April 2010 to February 2011. He was in the Army National Reserves before joining the Alaska National Guard in 2014, they said.
The Pentagon told the Associated Press that Santiago had gone AWOL several times during his stint with the Alaska National Guard and was demoted - from specialist to private first class - and given a general discharge, which is lower than an honorable discharge.

    ...
I'm always concerned where there is enough evidence to seize (and presumably hold) private property, but "not enough evidence to prosecute." I wonder how often this really means, "Gee, the guy won't cop a plea and there is only a 70% chance we convict rather than our preferred 95% chance, so we don't want to risk our record. Easier not to bring charges."

I wonder if he was a prohibited person due to mental issues. Or whether he is yet another example of how laws and the courts, are rather ineffective at actually protecting society from those who pose a danger. Mental issues and child porn do not suggest a mentally stable individual.

I am again confused with facts LOL.

Notice the guns that the po po had to protect themselves? That's what I want with extra large capacity clipazines !

Instead lizzurds will use this to try to disarm us further ....

Another example of people who are willing to "play the game" and losing.

Gunman in custody after killing five and injuring six at Ft. Lauderdale airport

Fox news weekend NYC newsgal 'Uma Pemmaraju' was just asking a reporter why doesn't TSA outlaw flying with checked weapons. I could tell that she does not have a clue about guns, has never owned one, let alone travel with one. Does not have any clue about GFZ, even though she works in a NYC building protected by men with guns.

Unseen and unused "insurance" that will only be activated after the damage is done.
