On a recent WA Most Wanted, KingCo Sheriff Urqhart answered a question about CPLs and vehicles.

He seems to be playing a little loose on the law as I understood it... (apologies for the video of a video)

He never specifies whether the firearm in question is loaded, which is a detail of consequence (RCW 9.41.050)

I'm pleased he took the question, but it seems the answer could get some folks in trouble.

Urquhart is a known anti-gun democrat.

He was defending his refusal to honor 48 hour ICE holds because he said they violated the due process rights of illegal aliens, however, when it was pointed out that he supported Initiative 1491 which has the 14 day loss of gun rights and seizure of property ex-parte with no due process, he went quiet.

Have there been any incidents, where a law abiding citizen, exits their vehicle, leaves the weapon in plain view and some bad persons break into the vehicle, steals the weapon and goes off into society and breaks laws?..

I'll await reply's before I present some scenarios and outcomes thereof.
