Because he's an idiot unaware of Va Code 18.2-282 or is hoping to conflate 'carry' with 'brandish'. The latter being what Mr Liberalshooter was definitely guilty of.

This David Frum guy just explained how the left, including the news media, looks at the state of affairs. It is all the conservative's fault. It is the rights fault that the left is attacking the right. According to the left the right has no right to promote their capitalist why of life. Violence against the right is justified as long as the conservative capitalist exist.

Well, truth be told, none of the Congressmen, Senators or their aides was armed with a firearm. Not even in their gym bags. Some were going directly to the swamp (DC) after practice, and thus could not legally carry. Others could go home and shower in Virginia before going to the swamp. Always carry, except when the law forbids carry.
Maybe this will be enough to kill DCs law suppressing our right to bear arms.

I assume he wasn't carrying or brandishing when he stopped Congressman Duncan and asked if there were Rs or Ds on the field. I think he would have mentioned that.

The ability to open carry firearms is there for everyone's protection, IF they'd just exercise it to protect themselves. It's their own fault for not exercising their rights, leaving it only to criminals to misuse ~ derp!
p.s. - was this a hate crime? Targeting a particular group - Republicans? With the side effect of striking fear into the larger group of people identified as Republicans?
Was this also domestic terror? Violence to affect political outcome?

It would not be legal for them to carry without a DC permit. Good luck for a Republican to get anything controlled by DC. Maybe we will get some fix to the situation. The NYT seems to not understand that the Republicans are not all about more gun control. The reaction was not what they expected.

Let the Feds make it so a permit from any state is valid in DC. Issue fixed.
That seems to be the plan so far, with about 3 bills in Congress to address that issue. One just covers elected officials and the other 2 cover everyone, I think.

IF, and that's a big IF, Republicans want to demonstrate how they're pro-gun (rights & privileges) they are, they can remove D.C.'s ability to set their own gun laws, together with making all states CCW licenses/permits valid in D.C.
