I know this is not directly related to open carry, however, it is pretty important as far a the 2nd amendment.U.S. Representative Jim Moran (D-Alexandria) was in Old town yesterday to propose stricter gun control and a ban on .50 caliber weapons (http://www.wtopnews.com/index.php?nid=25&sid=791885and http://www.nbc4.com/politics/9219546/detail.html).

Unfortunetly, this guy is my representation (notice I didnot say "represents me")in the U.S. Congress. I have already contacted him via email, I also plan on calling his offices and writing a hand-written letter. I urge everybody else to write their elected officials and tell them where you stand. We need to be vigilant about this, our elected officals need to know that we will not tolerate garbage gun control legislation.

A great website for pro-2nd amendment information is: http://www.gunfacts.info/. This will help you prepare a rebutal for just about any arguement an "anti" throws at you (Notice I said arguement, most "antis" don't like civil conversation and discussion). Remember to be polite...we don't want to gives anti's any reason to portray us worse than they already do.

Ok, last paragraph, I promise...we ALL need to do this...we need to become and stay active. Nobody else is going to do this for us, we need to be loud...gun owners are one of the loudest collective political voices in the country...we can't continue like this...we need to get LOUDER! We need to be the LOUDEST! I have faith in all you fellow 2nd amendment brothers and sisters out there! Thanks for reading my rant!

Not a rant, at all. I agree with you. In addition, the Fairfax County BoS is getting on the bandwagon, too.

http://www.wtop.com/?nid=25&sid=792760

Moran is harping on the .50 Cal issue while the Fx. BoS didn't want to take that route initially, but go for the re-instatement of the AW Ban that expired in 2004. I just can't belive that people really think that this type of legistation will keep arms out of the hands of criminals and terrorists. Enforce the exisiting laws!

That is an AWESOME website. I have been looking for something like that for awhile, thanks for the post novaccw!

On another note, I find it funny how when politicians come up with a unreasonable (and unconstitutional) gun ban the manufactures find a way to get around it. Here is a company that has developed a CA legal .510 sniper rifle!

Ronnie Barret found a way to beat the CA law too...he created a round that is supposedly superior to the .50! This is the first I have heard of it...I saw a post about the .416 Barret on www.KeepandBearArms.com. I googled ".416 Barret" and this is an excerpt to an article I found:

"Barrett Firearms Mfg. Inc. has chambered the Model 99 .50-caliber rifle for the new .416 Barrett round. According to the company, the .416 shoots flatter, faster and hits harder than anything available. Barrett expects to chamber its other .50-caliber models for the .416 by the end of 2006.

The .416 Barrett cartridge has an overall length of 4.58 inches and a ballistic coefficient of .943. The projectile is a solid brass boattail spitzer that weighs 400 grains and is 2 inches in length. The case has a capacity for 200 grains of powder.

The Barrett Model 99 chambered for the .416 Barrett is available in 45- or 50-inch overall length, depending on barrel length, and weighs 23 or 25 pounds, unloaded.

The new gun carries a suggested retail of $3,675 and is distributed by RSR Wholesale. " (Credit - http://www.gunweek.com/0510issue/hs051006.html)

Too bad Birdman Weapons Systems, Inc. (http://www.birdman.org) has shut down, or maybe moved offshore(?). Until recently, their website boasted a .50BMG handgun, with nuclear-tipped ammo, in a package they described as a the "Nuke50 - a handy, affordable nuclear delivery system". As I recall, they also offered an inexpensive (say $20?) .50BMG "single-shot sniper rifle kit", which sported, among other technological innovations, a galvanized, IPT threaded barrel, and a "simple action" consisting of strong elastic bands and a pointed stone. It was "unconditionally guaranteed" to be a "single shot" rifle!

See http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/556225/replies?c=19 for ad text for the Nuke50 WDS.

In an stunning move, state representatives (Lawlor & Jepson, from Bridgeport, I believe) actually submitted a bill in the Connecticut Legislature to ban these BWS Inc. products!

How astute... where DO these people come from???

evidently, like a lot of anti-gun types this guy didn't get the word that "birdman weapons systems" was a spoof site. no prices quoted and no ordering info supplied. the item that got a lot of notice from the anti-gun weenies was the "sideways sights" for "ghetto glocks".

website still works ... link had ")" included in hyperlink

http://www.birdman.org/

I bought 4 of the systems,,,worked as advertised, still have them..outstanding weapon system. lol

I like their GIF ....

From a link above: Lawlor and Jepsen said the .50-caliber weapons are powerful enough to knock down helicopters and airplanes.

ROFL .. yea, if they are on a A10 Warthog ...

Many helicopters can be shot down with shotguns if close enough ... never heard of a 50 cal shooting down a civilian aircraft.

Of course, lawlor and jepsen are anti-******

Extreme necro thread gone off topic with renewed posting by entering into the discussion of long guns as opposed to the OP's original premise of local ordinances.
