So I'm on my way home Saturday 6/3 and I stop to get gas in Harrisonburg shortly before dinnertime. I was OCing, which I did everywhere I legally could since I have no cc permits honoroed by VA. I prepaid, and I saw these three punk looking mexicans go into the store as I was about to walk over for my change. Inside they already in front of my in line, and the one kid payed for one thing then tried to steal something at the same time. The cashier noticed, and he looked as if he was about to leave anyway for a few seconds before one of his buddies who was obviously looking at me and my gun standing there walked over to him and told him something in spanish. The kid then paid and they all left asap. Did I really stop someone from stealing? I dunno, but I was definitely glad that I was carrying.

btw-Are mexican youths or ms-13 a big problem in the Shennandoah Valley?

Interesting enough, I was travelling through Harrisonburg on Saturday 6/3 myself heading the other direction (toward PA). :D

I stopped at the Exxon at near the college to get gas and a few Subway sandwiches for the family. The kids at the Subway (all JMU students) asked about the gun and I spent about 15 minutes educating the next generation about their rights as Virginians.

Sounds like Saturday was a good day for open carry in Harrisonburg!

It's always good to hear that more college students are getting educated on their rights. I am a college student myself up in Pennsylvania, and it really surprised me how little even some of my gun owning buddies at College Republicans knew about gun laws in PA. I educated them of course, but it still surprised me. John you truly are an amazing friend to all gun owners. Thank you!

Punk Mexicans kids are definitely an issue in Harrisonburg. There is a large (mostly illegal) Hispanic population that works in agriculture in Rockingham County, mostly in the poultry industry. I had contact with much of that population as I volunteered on the rescue squad in Harrisonburg for nearly 6 years before moving to Texas last year. My experiences in general in EMS were what motivated me to start carrying--definitely cured me of the "It's a small town, nothing will happen here" feeling.

I'm glad to hear that people have been having positive OC experiences in Harrisonburg. I'll be back there for July at my parent's house. I'm definitely planning on open carrying some while there even though my Texas CHL is honored by Virginia, especially since it is one of the rights we are denied in Texas.
