The WalMart assistant manager has obviously confused his employee policy with his store policy. It is against their policies for employees to carry weapons, but it shouldn't be that way for customers. Still, probably was better that you complied with his request than have a tresspassing charge against you.
What really bothers me is that he said you couldn't even carry concealed. F that. The day WalMart has a smiling ex-special forces security force armed with automatic weapons that politely hand me a ballistics vest and helmet at the dooris the day I will entrust my safety to walmart. Until then, I'll be carrying in their stores and make my security my own business.
And since when do I trust an underpaid and disgruntled WalMart employee to carry a purchased rifle to my car "for me"? To hell with that! I think you should write his boss and file a complaint, that he denied you your constitutional rights, and unless you can see an openly diplayed copy of the rules of WalMart, threaten to press charges against the Assistant Manager for Coersion.
Oh, and never EVER assume a uniformed person with a badge is a cop, just because they're acting like they have authority. Many of the security guards will use as much authority as you let them, and try to act as if they were police officers. Ask for badge numbers, police or not, whenever anyone openly denies your rights.
