Dan Engelhard (Senior Manager of Kitsap Mall) has stated Kitsap Mall is OFF LIMITS to any item that could be a weapon including guns (concealed or not). There is a rule book the security guards carry.

They said they are posted on the main entrance. But, they don't have postings on individual stores doors. I havn't found any signs. He said they don't have to post all the rules, "I don't have to post all the rules at every portal into the store" they have pamphlets in the security booth inside.

I was thinking about starting to open carry around Kitsap County (I live in Bremerton) so I called the Kitsap County Sheriff's office and they said its ok if i carried openly that there are no local restrictions, and I called the mall since that is one place I go frequently, I went to their website and called the

If they have a sign I will take a picture. The guy got mad when I asked why it was not allowed if they didn't have a sign posted. He thought I was being difficult with him. He said its a good rule because there is no reason why a person should have a gun anyway.

Walmart Bremerton:

I called Bremerton Walmart, and the Assistant Manager, Name sounds like (Dale Turpen or Turren) from the phone call. He said absolutely no guns are allowed in his Walmart. He said no open carry, and no concealed carry. He said if you were to buy a gun from his store you wouldn't beable to carry it out to the car yourself they have to have one of their people carry it out to the car for you. He said in his opinion there is no reason for a gun in his store and he will escort you out immediately and call the cops. He doesn't know if he has any signs up. I will look and post back. Walmart phone number: (360) 698-2889. I also called the Walmart headquarters, and they said they will call me back on the issue.

adamwa- please consider not asking anybody's permission anymore, LEOs and store managers included. Asking permission is like begging to be told "no."

"Don't ask, don't tell" applies to OC jsut like concealed carry.

If they are not posted, and it's legal, just open carry from time time.

If a local store gives you a hard time for lawful conduct, then we organize boycotts and negative publicity.

Not asking permission seems to be a scarry idea when it comes to getting my concealed carry licensed revoked, and any possible jail time or fines. Target's 800 number told me there are no rules against firearms, and I will shop there now instead of the walmart or mall.

Adam,

I can guarantee that your local WalMart manager is a rogue manager. Call the Corporate office in Bentonville and tell them that they have a rogue manager banning all guns from the premises in violation of corporate policy. They will straighten out the situation poste haste.

Um...Adam, can I ask you a question? What gave you the impression that open carry will get your license revoked?

The WalMart assistant manager has obviously confused his employee policy with his store policy. It is against their policies for employees to carry weapons, but it shouldn't be that way for customers. Still, probably was better that you complied with his request than have a tresspassing charge against you.

What really bothers me is that he said you couldn't even carry concealed. F that. The day WalMart has a smiling ex-special forces security force armed with automatic weapons that politely hand me a ballistics vest and helmet at the dooris the day I will entrust my safety to walmart. Until then, I'll be carrying in their stores and make my security my own business.

And since when do I trust an underpaid and disgruntled WalMart employee to carry a purchased rifle to my car "for me"? To hell with that! I think you should write his boss and file a complaint, that he denied you your constitutional rights, and unless you can see an openly diplayed copy of the rules of WalMart, threaten to press charges against the Assistant Manager for Coersion.

Oh, and never EVER assume a uniformed person with a badge is a cop, just because they're acting like they have authority. Many of the security guards will use as much authority as you let them, and try to act as if they were police officers. Ask for badge numbers, police or not, whenever anyone openly denies your rights.

And by asking him, gun owners give him power - stop asking, start carrying, unless the place is conspicuously posted to begin with.

Well, BremertonWal-Mart called me back, and a different assistant manager Donald told me they have no rules against handguns for customers prohibiting open carry, or concealed carry of handguns. That he doesn’t know why the other guy said that. But, he also said that he didn’t recommend it. I now have district walmart Management set to call me back, to see if they need to hold training or not. Will keep you posted.

Best of luck! I recommend bringing your wife with you, as well as a summarized copy of the training bulletin that was sent to the Federal Way Police. Just since it's the first time, people will be less worried about you if you are with your wife.

I won, I shouldn't really tell you what she has to do to me now since I won, but I'm gonna be happy :)I brought my wife, and my 2 year old son, and my 1 month old daughter.

In the last few days I've open carried in safe-way, subway, gas stations, Olympic national forest, around the neighborhood, Jeep dealership, Hyundai dealership, port orchard park on the water, and I haven’t had any reaction from the public really. One guy at the jeep dealership curious what I did for a living, but then again they have asked that before when I wasn't open carrying. The parents didn’t run away at the park, the kids didn’t run away, hell even the drug dealer selling dope in the park didn’t run away. (now my wife decided she will carry more after seeing the drug dealers in the park, realizes she is never able to find a real safe place). I hate crime, Keep up the good work showing others the laws of the land, and My wife will let you know if I ever get arrested. Maybe it’s time to sign up for the NRA:) Now I’m not sure about the kitsap mall, or Bremerton Wal-Mart yet, since they both told me on the phone I couldn’t carry in there. (Yes, I don’t call anymore to ask first)
