Since neither of the other candidates is even for CCW laws, he would be my choice.

I think you are mistaken. Other candidates SUPPORT concealed carry laws -- they just support the WRONG type of concealed carry laws.

'Don't Be Fooled By Rich Whitney' Warns Illinois Gun Owners PAC

CHICAGO, Nov. 3 /U.S. Newswire/ -- The following was released today by the Illinois State Rifle Association Political Victory Fund (ISRA-PVF):

The ISRA-PVF is warning Illinois hunters, sportsmen and firearm owners not to be fooled by Green Party candidate Rich Whitney's claims of being in support of gun owners' rights.

The ISRA-PVF has carefully evaluated Whitney's public statements and platform position papers and has concluded that Whitney is an unsuitable candidate for governor of Illinois.

Whitney, who admits that he has never discharged a firearm, claims to support a concept he calls "open carry." Presumably, Whitney's "open carry" would allow some class of citizens to carry firearms in public as long as the guns were in plain view. Yet, he has also gone on record supporting "one gun a month" schemes. "One gun a month" rationing is the centerpiece of Mayor Daley's campaign to abolish private firearm ownership.

"The Whitney campaign has been busily trying to hijack gun owner votes by misrepresenting the candidate's views on private firearm ownership," commented ISRA-PVF spokesman Richard Pearson. "His conflicting views on firearm carry laws and gun rationing demonstrate his ignorance of the issues facing law-abiding Illinois firearm owners. Furthermore, I doubt seriously that the pacifist-socialist political agenda of the Green Party would set well with many hunters and sportsmen -- even those who have been already duped by the Whitney campaign."

"The ISRA-PVF has already identified the gubernatorial candidate who is best able to represent the interests of law- abiding hunters, sportsmen, and firearms owners," continued Pearson. "That candidate is Judy Baar Topinka. Judy's demonstrated commitment to safe and lawful firearm ownership places her head and shoulders above the rest of the field."

"I know that a few gun owners feel the need to register some sort of protest by voting for Whitney," said Pearson. "I ask them to reconsider that stance and keep in mind that voting for Whitney may help ensure that Pat Quinn becomes the next governor of Illinois.

Very early in the Topinka campaign she seemed to be leaning for CC, but after the first few slams from the Dems on her ‘support from the gun lobby’ she seemed to totally cave on the issue. She certainly will not support open carry and is now on record as opposing CC it looks like us in the Land of Lincoln are screwed over again!

It is certainly an interesting media campaign. Based on the TV ads the candidates support putting poison in your kid’s drinking water to allowing children to bring guns to school and banning Dr. Seuss from the library. Of course the claim that candidate X supports assault weapons gets bandied about here every election.

Two more days and then it can start all over. Groundhog Day?

I've been in two places across IL and each was completely different.

Chicago area (mainly the Lisle area). Guns are the root of all evil, you are evil to even think about owning one. I do not even take my guns. The police should only have guns.

Pleasant Hill, IL - those people up in Chicago think they know what is best for the rest of the state... I do bring plenty of ammo because I apparently cannot buy ammo in IL - it is difficult to find the exceptions of the FOID requirements and the locals don't really know them and are scared I'm "testing" them.

I also think it is funny that I can have my bow with arrows ready available. I used to shoot my bow 5 or 6 days a week. My bow will shoot about 315 fps and I could easily hitmoving targetsat 20 yards without problems. I may need more pratice with my "handgun".
