So, Speaker Pelosi is two beatinghearts away from the Presidency (and Cheney has cardiac issues) and the Democrats have also won a slim 51 to 49 majority in the Senate, is it time to make wholesale purchases of Bushmaster, Rock River Arms, Panther Arms, Colts, etc. M4s, M16A2s, WASA AK-47s, Glocks and Springfield XDs with 15-round magazines, Benelli 12-gauge shotguns, etc.?

Christmas is around the corner, and after that comes a new Congress in January. If Bush was presented with a new "Assault" Weapons Ban, would he sign?

Maybe someone could set up a poll? I am hoping gun control will be way way way down the Democratic agenda. What do others think?

I think you are right on point!
and remember to also stock up on ammo since going after ammo it self seems to be the terrorist party's new tactic .....

I troll gunsamerica.com. They usually have some good deals on AKs. Not the Chinese copy, but the Eastern Block ones.

I think if gun owners put the money into political efforts to thwart gun bans that they would put into weapons that might end up illegal to own, there would be a lot less chance we will have to worry about a cold dead hands scenario.

If you want to beat the rush, start buying now.

Not 100% sure but I think Bush is on record saying he would sign an AWB.

The Dems want the White House, so if they are smart they won't rock the 2A boat for 2 more years. If they get the White House and maintain the majority in Congress, watch out! The country will be thrown into a socialist spin.

I will be buying a Bushmaster within a few weeks, I don't want to wait until there is a run on them and can't get one, probably in 6.8mm.

As I said in the Webb victory thread, I am cautiously optimistic. This article presents a lot of the same thoughts I have had over the past day.

Although I am still planning on buying an AK in the next couple of months, and I already have a bunch of 30 round magazines for it.

For the sake of argument, I have more guns than I need but less than I want. Buying more will not guarantee that I will be able to keep them. I believe buying in fear of confiscation is kinda pointless. I've lived through that once and we are lucky it was only for 10 years, the only reason that ban wasn't permanent and followed with worse gun control was because gun owners got active in 1994. Also making that kind of purchase is almost ceeding defeat before the battle is fought. I think it is more productive to funnel money towards strong defensive efforts. If 5 million gun owners put $100 towards a defensive effort, that would be half a billion dollars. I think that kind of funding could mount a heck of a defense.

Unfortunately my faith in the NRA is shaky. Their finances are always in shambles, money goes out as fast as it comes in. I think the NRA also needs some serious reform before we could trust them. I can only hope for the day when we have a USACDL.

I certainly hope you guys don't go into a panic and buy up a bunch of guns before Channukah.

Think of all those poor little elves that might be forced to work over-time: drives up the prices. . . .

And with all these politics, Donkey doesn't have much money socked away for the season this year. If you guys do a run on the guns, you'll spoil all that Joi de Noel.

I know! Tell you what: could you all just hold off till next week? With all this organizing around the Senate recount, I'm not going to be able to get to my broker till next Tuesday. And the way you guys are talking, I really think I really had better get me some H & K stock. . . . to hedge against higher firearms prices.

Seriously guys, relax.

And if your are concerned, stay engaged: invite a new Congressman to your gun club, and educate him or her about your issues.

You will find that few in the freshman class want to pick a fight with you right now.

Total Handgun ban in the next two days? Please, is congress even in session in the next two days?

Donkey, Webb available for some range time? How about yourself, we can see if we can't find a range and bring in some "scary" weapons for fun.

AWB is only thing I worry about Democrats bring back and I'm not sure they are even ready to broach the subject. I give it 2 years or so before anyone is even ready to broach the subject.

Its not the freshmen that I am worried about. Chuck Schumer has it in for us and with him looking like the hero of the day I expect he is going to exert some influence. Then there are folks like Charles Rangel http://www.nytimes.com/2006/11/09/nyregion/09delegation.html
"To that end, he sketched out an expansive federal agenda: Teaming up with Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg on gun control, passing new tax incentives for urban job programs, and redirecting federal money to New York in return for the outsize tax collections that the federal government makes here."

I think the AWB may come up, but .50 calibers are in more trouble. I think the best thing to do is make sure the new 'blue dog' democrats know where we stand. I think TEX1Ns idea of a letter writting campaign is a good one. As for buying as a hedge, there is a good chance the next ban is an outright ban, no grandfathered possession or perhaps making those weapons federally regulated like Class 3 stuff.

I'd rather not venture a guess as to how soon the anti-gun agenda will become a major issue again, in congress, to the point where our rights are in question...

But, it is truly an issue of WHEN, not IF.

My basic plans are simple:

1. Buy at least2 more stripped AR lowers to build on before the end of the year, and order Del-Ton kits for them within 2-years.

2. Trade one or two of my 'exotic/rare caliber' chambered handguns for equivalent pistols in more-common calibers. The first one on the chopping block is my XD-45 GAP, which I will replace with a 9mm or .45 ACP version by the end of the year

3. Buy another case-each of ammofor5.56, 7.62, .45 ACP, .357sig, 9mm and 12ga before the end of 2007.

4. Buy at least3 more common handguns, chambered in common calibers, within the next 2-years. Sig, H&K, Springfield, S&W/Walther, or Beretta.

5. Acuire a cheap 7.62 semi-auto rifle (AK-variant, CETME/PTR-91, SAIGA, etc...)

6. Double my stash of survival supplies, and upgrade the bug-out-bag. Also, put together a bug-out-bag for my fiance' (who will be my wife in 2-weeks )

7. Get my wife-to-be, enrolled to takea handgun-carry-permit course (which she is looking forward to :D), andinitiate her membership in the NRA, SAF, TFA, etc...

Thats a nice collection but how far are you willing to go to keep it? It's better to start working now when its easy to fight a ban than the day when the ban comes. It will be much harder then. If the resolve of the Australian gun owner is anywhere close to the American, most gun owners will turn their semiautos in if a ban comes. However if they have the resolve to keep their arms after a ban, then they should be ready now to participate in an activist effort to prevent such a ban.

We also need to get those gun owners who are on the sidelines active now. Get more people in the VCDL, in the NRA and so on, and they need to know that they must communicate their position to their representatives, the media and their friends and family. We cannot afford to have closet gun owners anymore.

As I recall, Bush said that he would sign the AWB if congress wanted to reenact it. Although at the point he said it, it looked like congress was not going to passthe bill. Therefore Bush could take a middle of the road position, knowing that it would not matter because he would not have to act on it. I doubt if he would sign an AWB passed by a Democratic congress.

I think longwatch is right, we need to be prepared to stop any gun control legislation early. I think we can do this because a lot of things have changed over the past 12 years. In 1994 there were 21 right-to-carry states. Now there are 39 RTC states. We also have the internet which has allowed a lot of gun owners the means to collaborate ideas and information.

Bottom line; there are a lot more gun owners/carriers now, we have much better means of communicating with each other, and we know how bad it was with the AWB. If we stay on top of congress it could greatly help us to cut off any anti-gun legislation early on. Just imagine the impact we could have if only 100,000 gun ownerscalled congress at the sign of a gun grabbing bill!
