HB347, as sent to the Governor

Governor Shaft has stated that he will veto it, however it would appear that there will be no further attempts to placate the Governor on this issue.

What this law does for open carriers:

It states that unequivically that open carry is legal statewide on foot, and legal in your car with a CHL regardless of city ordinances to the contrary. The "plain sight" provision is eliminated to where a police officer can determine ad hoc that your gun on your hip is not in plain sight, and arrest you for a felony.

As before, if you are carrying a loaded pistol in your car, you MUST immediately disclose to the law enforcement officer stopping you that you have a CHL and a firearm and present your CHL upon demand.

All and all, the bill is a major step forward for open carry statewide. Ohio's law will be like PA, WA, NH, AL, and a few other states where CHL's are required to carry in car.

The vote tally to override the republican governors veto (Which he said he will do)is going to be close. It looks like future Attorney General, democrat, and Buckeye Firearms Association endorsee Mark Dann is going to be the deciding vote. He was absent for these votes, but hopefully he pulls through for us. It would be great for his career. Its sad that the republicans here in Ohio are loosing touch with the people they are supposed to be representing. If the Dems turn out to be more pro gun than the GOP, Ohio will be a blue state for a very long time.

If you want this legislation passed, contact Mark Dann's officeTelephone: 614/466-7182
Email: dann32@maild.sen.state.oh.us

You can contact Governor bob taft if you like. 614-644-HELP

Or fill out the form here http://governor.ohio.gov/contactinfopage.asp

Also, if you live in Ohio, contact your state senator.

If you live in a state which borders Ohio, call.

Any time reporters do this - pound them on the bogus "registered handgun" nonesense. Unfortunately this reporter is with the AP and lists no contact info.
