It's an interesting story, but not really an OC story. He grabbed the rifle and went outside when he heard trouble; he didn't pick it up until after incident began.

The article mentions that damage of your fence is not an excuse for deadly force. But an unknownvehicle driving through a fence onto your yard in the middle of the night sounds like the kind of trouble that might warrent arming one's self.
