Your right, this state once again will restrict the rights of those who own such weapons, and further the criminal enterprise operating out of this state. Its only a matter of time before its just the criminals and the police are the ones with guns in this state, and all the average law abiding citizens are just known as victims....

I see some comments here that suggest people are ASSUMING that the bill is going to pass. To each of the people who posted complaints here, have youactually contacted your representatives and senators to express your oposition to the bill?

That maybe true, your correct it may not pass. However, lets look at the track record of things in this state. I don't see Maryland becoming a Shall Issue state anytime soon, as long as the moms against guns, and the BaltimoronOrganized CrimeComission and the support yourArmed RobbersUnion local 666. This is a state that actually considers restoring the rights of convicted felons so that they may vote. This is coming out of a state that is practically leading the nation in crime... the citizens that actually do care are doing the smart thing (moving out) all the while the crackheads are moving in. This is a state that wishes to repeal the death penalty, I mean you know I got an idea, lets just not punish criminal acts at all in Maryland so it can hold up to its name of being "the free state". At what point do you determine that the blind are leading the blind and that all hope is lost? What point is to where someone is going to say enough is enough and actually attempt to pass sensible laws and issues, things that would empower the people to defend themselves and not to worry about the offenders family suing for cash.

Look. Im not saying that work can't be done to reverse the trends that I have seen over the years, but you know the bill proposals, like the one that would attempt to criminalize gun owners when their guns are stolen, I mean who writes up this crap? Who sits around and says, lets do this? And you can't even begin to believe that the police are serious when they would actually enforce that sort of law if it were to come into play, because after all, locking up someone who's house was broken into, who's guns were stolen is a "quality arrest". Its just that you know so much has gone in negative directions as far as their whole strategy over here. I am thinking the way to get gun laws passed that are pro 2nd amendment is to use the existing statistics and explain to the retards out there that only they are going to be able to defend themselves when it comes down to it, when its their turn to be the victim. Obviously nobody understands that at this point, and the sheep will be herded straight to the deep dark woods full of wolves over here.

Thats why in Maryland, in some places, every single night of the year is Halloween.

Here is a letter I got from the MLFDA:

An "assault weapon ban" bill has been filed in the Maryland State Senate. Most, if not all, semi-automatic rifles and handguns could be banned under the terms of this bill. Senate Bille 43 gives the Handgun Roster Board the power to ban any semi-automatic pistol that could take a threaded barrel for a suppressor. Since ALL semi-automatic pistols can be fitted with a threaded barrel, ALL SEMI-AUTOMATIC HANDGUNS could be BANNED FROM SALE in Maryland.

Any semi-automatic rifle, using a detachable magazine and just one additional cosmetic item from the list included in the law, (i.e., pistol grip, bayonet lug, flash suppressor, etc.) would be AUTOMATICALLY BANNED by this bill.

I have already sent a PIA to every senator listed as supporting the bill.

Thats really ridiculous. I think itsto the amusement of anti gunpartiesthat they continue to attempt to criminalize the law abiding citizens in the state meanwhile, do they think that this will change anything as far as the criminals are concerned? Is this going to stop armed robbery? Or is this bill going to be an excuse for certain agencies to just start kicking down doors when they find guns or suspect that there will be guns involved? regardless... I hope the bill doesn't pass. Its pointless. Whens the last time someone actually benefited in the criminal world from using a flash supressor on a weapon, or a bayonet lug? I have yet to see any armed robberies where criminals entered the financial institution with bayonets fixed! And silencers with threaded barrels? Whens the last time the criminals actually cared who heard the gunfire in maryland? They don't. Because all in all, this bill won't do anythign but attempt to criminalize ordinary citizens.

To Mr. Senator Roy Dyson,

I am asking you not to support Senate Bill 43. This bill is another attempt to criminalize ordinary gun owners in Maryland. This bill is aimed to put harsher restrictions on ordinary citizens all the while criminals do as they wish regardless of any law or new law, or perhaps this is an attempt to criminlize the legal gun owners. The people who do own firearms in Maryland legally go through the proper processes such as waiting periods as well as background investigations to do so, and further shouldn't be punished by what they can and cannot purchase, own and use.

I would also like to state that the current gun laws haven't been working. Maryland has a very high crime rate and regardless of whether you take the guns away from ordinary law abiding citizens will make no difference to the criminals but rather give them what they want. I notice alot of other states have sensible self defense laws like the "Castle Doctrine" which states that you do not have to retreat in your own home, car etc, and that you have the right to defend yourself and your family. In Maryland there is no such law. I also have noticed that Maryland is not a Shall Issue state as far as Concealed Handgun Permits are concerned. If you look at the US Department of Justice/FBI statistics you will find that the states that are shall issue states have extremely lower crime rate than those which do not (Maryland). You will also find that "Assault Weapons" are not the source of crime in Maryland either. What you will find is that we are #1 in armed robbery, #1 in Carjackings and auto theft out of all 50 states. You will also find that the politicians have done nothing to protect the law abiding citizens. If you read into how you can actually get a concealed carry permit through the state police one of the things you must show is that you have been a victim. I think this is wrong and it must be changed.

Having served in the military and deployed to Hurricane Katrina I can tell you first hand that the guns down there that the ordinary law abiding citizens owned, helped secure the streets, helped the local police departments when some of their officers quit, other citizens stepped up to the plate guarding banks and their own homes without anyone asking to do so. These citizens were armed with everything from pistols to "assault weapons", and it was a great deterrent to the criminals looking to gain something from the already bad situation. This allowed ordinary citizens like you and myself to protect everything they worked for when the government wasn't able to. It enabled them to protect their lives and the lives of others when the local, state and federal government could not. They made the job of the US military easier by allowing us to focus on more important issues and not be stuck with worrying about a bank, casino or any other ordinary business. It allowed us to focus on rescuing stranded citizens rather than worrying about looters and hardened criminals.

I think that the state needs to focus more on crime prevention strategy rather than the failed one that we have already. This strategy that the local police departments have and whatnot, the hire more cops, or build new jails is not working. The whole strategy that plans to criminalize gun owners isn't going to work either. Criminals will continue to do what they do, weasel their way in and out of the legal system, and they will continue to victimize the citizens of maryland on a daily basis knowing in the back of their mind that they are unarmed, knowing that we rely on a 911 system where police response time is slow, knowing that 911 maybe busy. Until lawmakers empower the citizens to defend themselves and their families against the criminal threat in this state will continue to go unchecked. There is a reason that they choose not to rob and rape in Virginia, because they know that the citizens of Virginia are armed and it is one of the best, most cost effective deterrents against crime that any state could ask for. Furthermore, its written in the US. Constitution, the 2nd Amendment is what makes this country great and gives the power to the law abiding citizens, it ensures that we have freedom of speech, and guarantee's the rights and freedoms to all future Americans and Marylanders. I am asking you Mr. Senator not to side with the criminals and take away the rights of the law abiding citizens.

Southern Maryland Voter,

Thomas Lee Wilson, Jr.

So I wrote my letter and this is the response I got the next day. See writing your politicians does produce results!

Dear Mr. Wilson:

Thank you for contacting me. I am proud to have a 100 percent approval
rating with the NRA and Tripwire. I have always advocated for law-abiding
gun owners' rights and will continue to do so. I am totally against this
bill and will oppose it vigorously. My record on supporting pro-gun issues
and fighting against anti-gun legislation dates back throughout my entire
career in public service. Please know that I will and have stood with the
pro-gun community.

Please let me know if you have any further questions regarding my stance on
SB 43.

Sincerely,

Maryland Senator Roy Dyson

District 29

Just got this email:

Please watch this six minute video:
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-6006926775914305210 which shows Suzanna Gratia-Hupp's testimony to congress on the AWB, and then shows how in Australia a total ban on semi-autos was enacted in two weeks ... resulting in some 600,000 guns being destroyed. Don't let that happen here. Decide now to attend the AWB hearings next Tuesday February 27th at 1 PM. We want to pack the halls. Generally speaking, the committee members minds are made up, or nearly made up, before the hearings take place. The reason for going to the hearings is not so much to persuade the committee members as it is to make a statement ... a show of concern. Committee members know that for the average citizen to show up for a hearing s/he has to take the day off work and drive down there. It is a considerable inconvenience and a considerable output of time and money. They know this. It means a lot to them. When they see 10 people show up it indicates a lot of interest ... not one person in 10,000 usually attends a hearing. When they see the room full they take notice. When they see the halls jam-packed with people they are concerned. We've done it before, we need to do it again - maybe this time more than ever. If the AWB gets passed by the committee and goes onto the House floor we may be in real trouble. We need to see that the committee does not pass the AWB.
February 27th at 1 PM in the Senate on the Assault Weapons Ban - SB43 - we need everyone who can possibly make it to be there.
Directions on how to get to the House & Senate Buildings are now a link on our Current Actions page, or are accessible directly by going here: http://tinyurl.com/2hrwce

I want everyone to know that they are more than welcome to use my letter to write their congressmen and senators in their states, or parts of it. Its good that people are taking initiative. I will not be able to attend in Annapolis because work is not permitting (military) however, I have written my letters and informed local gun shops in my area about the issue, alot of them plan to attend and voice their concern.

Just an update. I live here and the Senate Hearing had about 200 progun folks show up. Antis had about a dozen. Hearing was shut down after 5 hours of testimony with 66 opposed to the ban not allowed to testify. Also stacks of written testimony in oppostion to the bill.

Results:
They were suppose to vote last friday but no vote was called. It looks as though the vote is 6-5 or 7-4 in opposition.
The chair will not call a vote as he is in favor of the bill and will not allow a defeat of this bill (progun victory)
As reported in the Baltimore Sun, 19 Senators could petition this bill out of committee and with 21 cosponsors one would think that would happen.
The president of the senate Mike Miller rules with an iron fist and would not allow this to happen.
Also there is no companion bill in the house so, if it did happen the senate bill would have 3 minute reading and explaination period followed by a vote with no discussion.

So in my opinion this ban is dead for now thanks to the hard work of many!

Castle doctrine turned out the same except there were only about 10 people to testify in favor and no opposition.

ON the DC Ban see below

Please find an online poll regarding the DC Gun Ban and today's important
court decision at the below link. This is a Washington, DC media outlet and
it would be great if the response was an overwhelming Yes!

Please vote and cross-post to your other message boards and networks.

More information on today's DC Court ruling will appear in tonight's
Grassroots Alert. Stay tuned.

Congrats ladies and gentlemen,

The bill is dead for this session. Expect to see it again in the future, maybe making trips to Annapolis is going to become a force of habit to kill this thing every year. Maybe this is the turning point, where the lawmakers are realizing that the more gun legislation they make in the wrong direction, the more they are riskingvotes for the next election... Maybe this is the turning point where they will start making laws that make sense and repealing the garbage that has plagued Maryland and enabled criminals to make things easier for them. It would be nice for them to repeal the "reasons for wanting a CCW" in the state of Maryland....

This is your Mr. Anti Gun Schumer firing a gun with a great big smile on his face. Its only a matter of time before he proposes legislation to the point where only he will be able to have these guns and everyone else is just SOL. I bet he's so anti gun, he's just like glendenning, he has a concealed Carry Permit.
