So about an hour ago (around 12:45 AM) I decided to run to the Short Pump Walmart to buy some DVD's. I walked in, and about 20-30 seconds later (I hadn't even made it past the middle of the registers), an unarmed security ninja came out of the woodwork and stopped me. He asked me if I had a CHP, I said that I didn't, and that I didn't need one because I was carrying openly. At this point, he told me that Walmart doesn't allow weapons on the premesis, and told me to leave. I said that I would gladly leave, but I wanted to talk to the manager on duty first. He took me to her, and I explained that I was openly carrying, and just came to buy a few movies. She said that I needed a concealed weapons permit (this woman was extremely uninformed), and that if I didn't have one, that I had to leave because it was company policy. I said that I wasn't "concealing", and that I didn't need one, but I would gladly leave (the whole time I was being extra extra polite, and had my hands in front of me). Before I left, I requested that she write down the name and number of the store manager, and her name and position.

Last time I checked, Walmart had no policy against carrying in their stores. Didn't someone on here actually post a voicemail from corporate headquarters stating that it was OK?

Anyways, here are the names and numbers if anybody wants to call and reaffirm the legality of OC in that Walmart:

Store Manager: Robert Belcher- 804-360-9777

Asst. Manager who told me to leave:
Erin A.

Edit: removed assistant manager's last name due to a ridiculous message sent to me from her. Apparently the last name of A MANAGER should be kept private. HAH :D

I might would do so. If you do, it would be essential that you continue to be extraordinaryily polite. Someone is going to need to explain Wal-Mart policy to her, and it would seem that her own corporate office would be the most appropriate.

However, those who have contacted Corporate themselves have had good luck, and that may be the best way to go. Perhaps the manager knows the policy and could fill her in. Wal-Mart's web-page has a link to a form for customer feedback, and the manager will call you if you send in that form asking to be called and explaini the situation politely.

I would contact her, but I would wait until you have it all settled with the corporate office first. Not that you would get in trouble for doing so - but it might make the whole process go more smoothly.

Whether or not to use Myspace is your call, but my suggestion is to deal with this very politely and professionally. Address all remarks to her address at work. Anything she might interpret as personally embarrassing or condescending will just harden her against all open carriers, or gun owners for that matter. The only time I would email someone at home about being an idiot is if the person were a politician or public official. (One gives up a certain degree of personal privacy by going public.)

And what is it about Short Pump? Do they put something in the water out there? Sic Semper can tell you all about that!

I was very polite, and sent her the link. I also told her that she was very professional in dealing with the incident.

Some of the people at Walmart can only be described as "useful idiots" -- Last time I was buying ammo, I was OC'ing & it took an act of congress to make a purchase because I was carrying.. They were using the same logic of: "You can't serve someone in a bar if they're drunk" -- Finally I had to be escorted up to the front-checkout to make my purchase(4 boxes of Winchester 9mm FMJ 100-count)

On another occasion, one of the assistant managers(former military) had questions, not as an adversary, but as a resident "gun nut"

I have a funny Walmart story of why you should always shop there..

A couple years ago I was shopping at Walmart and was falsely accused of shoplifting -- and then tackled in the parking lot by Walmart employees(unfortunately for them, I had a valid receipt) -- After visiting the E.R., and then a personal injury attorney, Walmart paid out some "mad money" as an apology for their actions.

I Think I remember a posting not long ago about the same thing happening at a Chesapeake walmart, corperate was brought in and a little was issued to a member I believe stating walmart had not policy against customers carrying and actually supported legal carry by both open and conceled means. Call Corperate, so they may see this is a Virginia wide problem that a memo should be sent to all stores.:banghead:

In VA a place of business open to the public must display on their door or someplace visible upon entering NO WEAPONS or GUNS ALLOWED otherwise thy are giving implied permission to carry in a legal manner on their property.

Can you state a legal precedence on this?

It would make sense that there should be something posted, but an actual law stating so, I have not seen.

Sad but true. I know a guy who was knocked down by some dummy pushing a mile long line of carts back into the store. Apparently, the guy didn't realize what he'd hitbecause proceeded to back up and get a run at it.

Although most of myWally-World trips end in fustration, I do have one positive comment to make. There is a cute blond that knows here stuffworking inthe sporting goods sectionin one of the stores here. ;)

Any update? Has anyone contacted corporate? Corporate needs to inform this Wal-Mart of the corporate policy (no weapon posession by employees, as far as customers are concerned, Wal-Mart follows state law).

I shop at this Wal-Mart (1-2 miles from my house) and occasionally open carry there... I'd like to know if this issue has been resolved...

Sic, I e-mailed corporate and included the Walmart in question, and I have NOT gotten anything back from them yet. The asst manager told me that she already told her manager about it, and apparently they're good buddies, so I think the only way the manager would be corrected is if corporate, in fact, told him.
