This isn't about your Rights but about mine ,what little are left.:cuss:but the two are interlinked: we're all gun owners and those of us in Australia can only dream of the day when honest citizens can open carry again.

On Saturday 24th March (tomorrow, for those of us who are in front of the rest of the world, in time at least:)). Theelections will be held for both houses of our State Parliament in New South Wales.

Currently the Shooters' Party holds one seat in the Legislative Council, our upper house of review, tomorrow we fervently hope to make it at least two members.

If we don't get another member elected then it is possible that the Greens will be in a commanding position and we all know what various Green groups have done around the world. So wish us luck but whatever happens the fight will go on.

Good luck in the election, mate. Australia is great country and an upstanding ally of the U.S. and hopefully ison the way back from its departure from reasonable firearm rights of its citizens--though it will likely be a long road to travel.

I don't know about the name, though. Shooters Party?

How about Self-Defence Party... or Sportsmen Party? Maybe Nature Party. No one is against Nature.

In any case.... VOTE 1--the Shooters Party!

I personally thought it very wrong that you there in the Down Under lost your right to posses Firearms, the fact is that it has done little to no good to control the Crime rate, there and we here in the US have found that by the majority of the States passing the Concealed carry laws allowing us to carry a Hand Gun Concealed the Crime rate has decreased, almost across the board. Mr Howard there in your Country seems to be a level headed man and has been a strong supporter of our effort in The War against terrorism, maybe He could apply some real pressure on the Government body to reverse the Decision of banned Guns, and get the law reversed to again allow you all to rearm Yourselves.

I will be hoping that it will be so.

<snip>

A characteristic of parliamentary governments is that they are quite candid about their platforms. In the US, the communists and socialists typically hide their motivations by calling themselves "progressive" or "moderate." The conservatives say whatever it takes to appear conservative, then wimp out because they have no strength of character.

In parliamentary systems the parties just say who they are. This is because our two-party system tempts the parties to lie about their intentions so they can attract the largest possible constituency. Parliamentary parties just want to attract constituents who are like-minded, so they're honest about their intentions.

First the good news.

The election is over and our local member, who is an Independent, was re-electedwith an increased majority. He won 74% of the vote which is quite an achievement in a democracy. He is a friend to gun owners and at most,if not all of the Polling Places around the electorate his workers and those for the Shooters' Party were one and the same and handed out 'How-to-Vote' for him and the party.

The results for the Legislative Council however will not be final until about the 12th of April. The voting system is Preferential and is counted by hand, slow but sure.

So the 'bad news' is that we don't yet know if the Shooters have a second Member yet. The indications are that we will reach the target and get enough votes, at the latest count our man had 82,000+ primary votes and has to reach 96,000. On past election trends he should hit the target.

None of us need nail clippers at the moment though:D

Kelly J.

Thanks for the good thoughts, but unfortunately although our Prime Minister John Howard is a good friend to America, and for that I can't fault him it's one thing that I agree with him on.

However he personally hates guns and has publicly stated such: "I hate guns" Exact words.

He was the instigator of the restrictive gun laws and bullied/blackmailed the States into going along with him by threatening to withold Federal funding, without which the States can't operate.

A good man in some ways but not in others.

Sorry To Hear that, I didn't know his stance on guns, that is a shame, as from where I stand I like some of the things I've heard him say like his position on the Muslim's in your country.

We waited and the outcome is(Tuesday):
--------------------------------------------------------

"The NSW Electoral Commission has today declared the polls from the recent State election and Roy Smith has won a second seat in the Upper House for the Shooters Party.

On a primary vote of 106,000, Roy was elected at number 20, ahead of the last coalition candidate.

The election of Roy has been the result of much hard work from all of you, and I pass on my sincere thanks for your efforts.

Now the hard work in the Council begins, and both Roy and I are looking forward to meeting the needs of our constituents.

Remember, we work for you and we would welcome invitations to attend clubs or events to discuss any relevant firearms or political issues with you and your colleagues.

Robert."
