It definitely turned out pretty well for the OC movement and for the diffusion of the idea that OC is both legal and OK. The chief had to admit his guys were "confused" and in violation of some dept. regs. He even had to order "remedial" training for some of his guys.

Not only MCPD but all other VA PDs now have no excusefor mishandling future legalOCer/LEO interactions. MCPD got a black eye on this one.

The men in Tony's 7, by being cool, calm and composed (God, it must have been tempting to say something nasty to the yapping terrierClodfelter!), made the uncomfortable (for them) event turn out to be a big plus for OCers in VA and even other states. If even one of them had acted like a hothead or a showoff, the story would have been much different.

Hats off to those guys. They deserve much credit.

I don't grok the "HUGE SUIT" that Bob istouting. What are the damages?

Went into Tony's for lunch (no gun but armed with a VCDL shirt) . Two MPD officers inside that looked at me as if they expected fireballs from my eyes and lightning bolts from my arse . Maybe it was the horns on my head........

All, think about it.

I have nothing but respect for Philip - and he should speak. He brings experience, credibility, presence, and the weight of VCDL.

However, for him to speak and say "that's not what happened" is one thing.

I'd urge as many of the 7 as possible - those who are willing - to sign up to speak. Sign up for up to 10 minutes - you don't have to use all those minutes. But tell your side. Tell about the language and the attitude used. You are the only ones who can be credible about that part of the whole story.

Ya'll might want to head on over to bruce li black velvet. He has a new thread on the whitewashing by the Chief. Someone who claims to not have any connection to the Police department or City, called the seven out as not being men. http://www.bvbl.net/?p=895#comments

Status of Manassas City Council meeting
*************************************************

I talked to the Mayor today and told him that VCDL is planning a
return trip to address City Council on the 9th of April. I am
awaiting a call back from the City Manager - I am requesting around
30 minutes to address all the problems with the Chief of Police's
investigation.

I will put an alert out confirming the time and date as soon as I have it.

We need to return in large numbers to let them know that we are not
going to accept any cover ups.

I received this email from Thom Davis:

Dear Philip:

As did you, I read with much disappointment the letter of supposed
"apology" from Chief Skinner directed to VCDL members and the various
Manassas council members in what has become known as "The Manassas
Affair." What an arrogant sham artist he is!

As a former elected Mayor of a small city in South Carolina (if an
incident such as this had occurred) I would have recommended no less
than a "formal" reprimand be entered into the official record of each
of the officers involved for "Dereliction of Duty." Additionally a
"special" reprimand would have been forthcoming against the Chief for
the "CYA" letter he issued wherein he alleged an investigation had
taken place - an obvious lie!

However Philip, I do feel that VCDL has seen the last of the matter
and that any further contact with the Manassas politicos will go
unanswered. As a matter of fact they will (or did) simply sweep the
matter under the rug. In their minds, it's just too unimportant for
them to bother themselves with. This is the way of a bureaucracy - no
matter how large or small!

Best to you;

Thom Davis

Thanks Tess. I will sign up for ten minutes and speak as one of the the Tonys' 7. I spoke last time for 3 minutes, but this time I have more to say. As a VCDL member I will choose my words wisely and reflect the dignity on our organization...and tell the truth. As an official sworn by the court I must to do.See you all there!

VCDL to address Manassas City Council on the 23rd of April

********************************************************

I talked to the Manassas City Manager, Lawrence Hughes, today.

He asked that VCDL address City Council on Monday, April 23rd at 7:30

PM. He said all the meetings between now and then are loaded with

budgetary items.

He said he would allow me 15 minutes to speak (half of what I asked

for). Other speakers will have 3 minutes.

We are going to have a PowerPoint presentation, with the items

ordered by importance, most important items first.

**Please mark your calendars as we need another BIG turnout.**

Manassas wants this to just go away (hence, the cover up by the

police and lack of a negative response to that cover up by City

Council).

Lots of luck, Manassas.

Oops -- sorry. Just saw the other post

Well, sorry folks, I can't make that date. I'll be out to sea on a cruise with my beautiful wife celebrating our first anniversary!!

But take heart....given a choice, I'd STILL rather be on the cruise with my wife! Sorry folks!
