Let's chat about our rifles and the way we have pimped them out.

I would like to get ideas on what other people have installed and why. What to buy and the best place to buy it.

This is also the place to submit photos to show off what we have done so far.

There is always someone out there selling it for less. Takes a few minutes to find them on the Internet. Actually, you just get someone who loves to shop and find the best price... my wife!! She bought the items for me.

I am now looking to get a RRA 10.5" barrel and a scope. I have been eyeballing the Trijicon models at the moment. Looking to see what else is out there and what others are using.

I checked the prices at the Expo gun show and was shocked at the "almost retail" prices!

Actually... I have been issued an M-16 that I carry for work. My safe at home welcomes the M-16 and the Pimp Rifle too.

I still need to put together a tactical vest with upgraded armor. Ceramic plates would work well. Not that I expect trouble but... I want to be prepared.

Thanks LEO for starting this thread! I love your accessories list.

It's amazing how easy it is spend more $$ in accessories than you'll spend on the basic rifle! I bought this:

    http://www.dpmsinc.com/firearms/5.56...4_carbine.aspx

I've spend some time sighting in the iron sites, and a cheapo red-dot. I'm finding I'm going to need a target scope to do better than 4" groups at 100 yards because my eyes can barely see the target. I'm not planning to doing much to this setup because I love it's deadly simplicity and light weight as-is, but I'm seriously considering a target upper for it so that I can drive tacks at 500 yards.
Ya... and I am not done yet. I still need a scope, 10.5 " barrel, bipod, hard case, laser sight, and more!!

You need to dress it up once in a while...!!

Where did you go to sight it in?

What scopes are you looking so far?

I have a membership at Black Creek Range. I'd like a target/sniper scope that I can install on the target upper and I don't want to break the bank. There were some nice uppers at the last Richmond gun show. I'll probably pick one up at the next show in May.

I gather I would need a license for the 10.5" barrel, and the muzzle blast is probably fierce.

For the 10.5" you just need to fill out an ATF Form 1 to request to modify your rifle for the short barrel. You pay a one time tax of $200 and that is all. You just cannot take it out of state unless you notify the ATF first.

    http://www.atf.gov/forms/pdfs/f53201.pdf

I only have a mortgage to pay so I can afford to spend a little extra for a good scope

The muzzle blast should not be any different for the short barrel.

I was shocked at the prices the Expo Center gun show was charging for their stuff!! I will continue to search the Internet for better prices.

My favorite: the guy selling my exact AR-15 stock for $175 when it retails for $55 online!

I'll have a post up shortly with my AR and links to accessories (including overpriced stock).

I am also shopping for a silencer and quick disconnect if available.

Not that I need it.. more that I want it. You guys know what that is about. It would look good on my shorter barrel.

What if my barrel was shorter.... With the magic of paint shop pro....

    Ekk!

Shorter barrel = lower velocity. I want to keep my 0-100 yard velocity above 2,500 ft/s, the magic number required for yaw and fragmentation in soft tissue. Oh wait, this is a plinking gun, kinda like a 10/22. Forget the soft tissue comment...

Don't dismiss the shorty. We use em because its easier to get in and out of a suburban with and they work just fine. Give you a headache quicker though as the concussion hits ya.
This is the problem that was discussed in another thread about the drawbacks of the Kel-Tec PLR-16. An integral suppressor would be really nice in that gun, but this is a thread about AR-15s and CARs so I'll shut up now. (At least until I take some photos of my tricked-out M4gery to post here.)

I have decided to skip the short barrel for my rifle and will buy an MP5 instead. The wife has already approved the purchase. I have one lined up and waiting for a response.

Anyone know a Class III dealer in the area that is friendly?

You could try Stockman Sporting Goods. I've seen
them at the last few Fredericksburg gun shows and has had several class III weapons on display for sale. I almost bought my AR/M4gery from him but I didn't have proof of citizenship with me.

When people ask about purchasing such a weapon, he gives a good explaination on the process and costs. He seems like a decent guy while chatting with him. This is a side business for him but said he will do FFL transfers.

Thanks... I will need to have it transferred since it is out of state.

I have always wanted an MP5. I fell in love with it when I fired it at the range last year.

Doug is a good guy to deal with. I recommend him too. If you frequent gun shows around here you've probably met him already. He's friends with Steve the Fort Knox safe dealer, and they often hang out together to chat when the show isn't too busy. LEO 229, you mentioned at one point having a huge safe to keep your firearms in, so I imagine that you already know Steve too, since he's the only Fort Knox dealer in the area. (Assuming that your safe is a Fort Knox.)

Wow they are paying officers well here in VA. An MP5 isnt cheap. Either that or your wife really ROCKS! I would have to buy a new bed for the other room if i came home after spending something like 5 grand on a new toy. I agree tho that the MP is much better than the M4. What cal. are you looking at ?

5 grand? If you know where I can get one for 5 grand PLEASE let me know!!! I'll have cash in hand within a day!

These things are more like 20K for the "real deal" pre-86 select fire models.

LEO is prolly looking at a clone.

I am looking spending at least $22,000..... They were cheaper a few years ago.

I do not have any bills so I have cash to spend. Getting lots of money back this year from the IRS and state.

I spoke to Steve when I was ready to buy. He blew me off BIG TIME!! Guess he did not take me serious. I ended up buying from out of state for way less than his offer and the inside delivery charge was actually cheaper than curbside delivery. They could not figure that out.

Took 3 guys 2.5 hours to bring it into the house.. first floor. It is 1,800 pounds too. I have the Titan Model.

For this, I'll likely go to Blue Ridge, out in Chantilly. I'd like to try the NRA range, not just for this but in general. I normally shoot at Gilberts. I like the range and the guys that work there. Oh yeah, can't shoot this at Gilberts, unless you get a 22lr converter.
