Maybe people in the Tacoma area who open carry should begin writing letters to whomever is in charge at the mall. Perhaps that rule could be rescinded, and the fact that it is legal to carry, concealed or otherwise, could be recognized.

The main reason I wouldn't carry at the airport is because there are just way too many uptight security people there who would simply give you trouble if you did. If it is allowed in some areas but not others, I guess it would be OK, as long as it is clearly defined which is which. I wouldn't want to be in an area where you are not allowed to carry and find myself in deep s***.

Of course I haven't been to an airport since before 9/11, so I have really no idea how it is anymore. Correct me if my information is wrong.

Oh, it's very very clear. You can't get into the "sterile" area of any airport these days w/o either an employee badge or a boarding pass (or some other kind of special temporary arrangement that a newsperson or someone escorting a disabled passenger would get.) You won't go there by mistake!

Please understand that I'm definitely not recommending open carry at SeaTac at this time!

As far as the Mall goes, I think the better course as recommended by others in related threads, is to address store management: explain that you'd like to shop at their store(s), but because of the Mall's restrictive policy you don't and won't. Let them pass on the pressure to their landlord. (Anybody been to the Lakewood Mall recently, or any number of other locations? There's not exactly a shortage of retail space around the area!)

I have open carried in the SeaTac baggage claim area while waiting for and picking up arriving guests. No issues at all. I will do it again.

One person asked me for directions. I said that I didn't work there. She did a bit of a cognitive-dissonance-double-take, then composed herself and decided it wasn't a big deal.
