Any one know if this was designated a criminal protection zone?

I dunno if that mall is posted or not.

It looks like there were rounds fired in the mall, a starbucks and a target. From the helicopter footage they're showing it looks like there are alot of casings in the parking lot.

They said he shot a police officer at a gas station, drove across town and then had another firefight with more police. It doesn't sound like this dude was a mass shooter so I'm wondering if people weren't also hit by the police.

I think he's a would be mass shooter. I mean given anymore time, or given the chance that he was to go into the mall, etc.... he would have been going for bodycount. I think its good they were able to stop him in time, and didn't hide behind firetrucks waiting for the guy to come out.

Stunning. Not 18 hours later and this shooting is almost invisible in the media, including 'ours.' I tried to find an update on the execution of the Pagan MC marine ... nothing, even in the Roanoke Times local source.

That's the news cycle for ya. Mix in some bad ethics and biased editing and, voila!

Pathetic journalism.

Journalism is one of the verymost corrupt professions in our society. Not as bad as the law and photography. But definitely in the bottom 5.

From John Lott http://johnrlott.tripod.com/
I have had it confirmed for me that the Kansas City Mall Shooting at the Ward Parkway Center that occurred yesterday was in Gun Free Zone. Security at the mall confirms that guns are banned there.

I realize this is old news now but I just ran across this thread and wanted to respond...

Even though Mr. Lott confirmed with the mall authorities that's it's supposed to be a victim disarmament zone the mall is in no way posted as such. Not only is it not posted in accordance with the standards set by Missouri law, it's not posted in any way whatsoever, even to this day.

I posted the following information on Mr. Lott's blog as well.

Hoplophile said... I work a few blocks from that mall and shop there often. If their policy is that guns are banned they aren't making it obvious to their customers. I specifically shop there because it's one of the few malls in my area that is not posted. I just walked the perimeter of the mall again today and I was unable to find a single sign on any mall or shop entrance prohibiting guns. 5/01/2007 4:33 PM
