We are now running on a new, and hopefully much-improved, server. In addition we are also on new forum software. i was going to, untill i was stopped by all three police officers currently on duty, and was told that i would be given disorderly conduct and disturbing the peace tickets if i didnt take the weapon home immediatly...
Untill the supreme court decideds that open carry isnt DC or DTP, its just plain not worth it

I know next to nothing about Wisconsin politics. Why are guns such a problem there? This is directed to the Wisconsin residents. I'm not criticizing y'all, I'm just trying to get educated.

I used to live in northern Illinois. Wisconsin is almost as bad as that socialist state on handguns. I never could figure out why. Heck, the first day of deer season is a holiday there. Not enough people show up to keep the businesses going. You might get by with it in a gun friendly rural area (assuming it's legal) but not in any city in that state that I know of.

I think concealed carry becomes legal the moment police make it impractical to open carry. The WI Supreme Court has already stated that there has to be a practical way to exercise the right to keep and bear arms. Obviously if OC becomes impractical (and I would say arrest or harassment for OC makes it impractical), then CC become the legal option.

We don't open carry because we fear the Gestapo. When it comes to handgun carry Wisconsin is almost a police state. eclark53520's experience is typical. Even though the three policemen's comments he quoted were completely out of order and unenforceable, they still made the threat of disorderly conduct and disturbing the peace charges, knowing full well it will send most of us cowering to a corner. This is a typical local law enforcement tactic. They get their mouth moving before their brain is in gear. A letter of protest should be sent to their superiors or better yet to the town council.
The Wisconsin supreme court has ruled that concealed carry is absolutely prohibited by private citizens. The Court said that visible carry is the only reasonable alternative manner of carry. The Court also has said that the State must allow an alternative manner of carry to concealed carry or yield to the state constitutionasl amendment Article I chapter 25. The attorney general office agreed. Apparently the word is not getting spred around through local law enforcement departments, or they are just plain ignoring the supreme court rulings, knowing that most of us won't challenge their idle threats.

I do not understand why such threats could not be put to rest with a lawsuit? I guess I am baffled.
I had the same situation here in Georgia, with respect to carry in parks in my county. I did not cower. I went to the . . . ah, just read (I am Ed Stone, by the way, when you see that name).

It seems like you have more than enought threat of immediate harm to get a declaratory judgment and injunction against these officers threatening unlawful arrest.

When that situation happend, i was freshly 18, with a shiney new glock(had been shooting since i was 6 and handguns since i was 10, just to calm any fears of inexperience with weapons...not that it matters).
I Read the statutes and understood that it was legal to carry, however i did not realize that it was not DO or DTP. So when they threatend me with it, i had no reason to believe that they were totally out of line. I could see no other alternative, at that point, other than to listen to them.
With the knowledge i have gained after joining this website, and the court cases i have read. I would no longer be afraid to stand up to them, citing those statutes and cases. However, i cannot take the chance of being arrested. I have a daughter and college classes to attend to.
I am seriously considering doing it again. I'm kinda hoping a open carry march is organized...i would seriously consider.

I am not familiar with the Pro2A organizations in Wisconsin, but if they would be willing to support an Open Carry Walk with media attention, contact Jeff Garvas at http://www.ohioccw.org . You can search the site about the history of concealed carry in Ohio, and how Open Carry Walks played a large roll in that. He would probably be happy to give you info on how to plan an organized, succesful public OC walk.

I OC every time I am in the North woods, unfortunately my time up their has been dwindling as of recent years. I will keep an eye out in the event any proposed activities coincide with my visits.
