Blacksburg Police question graduate studentBy Jeffrey Douglas, APR

BLACKSBURG, Va., May 24, 2007 -- Ensuring the safety and security of our university community remains a priority of the highest order for Virginia Tech. In the spirit of increased vigilance and transparency, University Relations shares the following information with our university community.

A Virginia Tech graduate student and part-time employee was detained for questioning by the Blacksburg Police Department earlier today as a result of their discovery of a suspicious device in an off-campus residence.

Investigators have determined that there is no reason to believe that this event presents any danger to our university community at this time. The Virginia Tech Police are working with the Blacksburg Police Department to assist them with their investigation.

Contact Jeffrey Douglas, APR at jdouglas@vt.edu or (540) 231-7911.
