This is progress - firstKaine said gun carry on campus would be a "disaster"!

Then Kaine said the VT Review Panel would have to advise him on this subject.

Kaine is now in this video on record as saying that campus carry is up to college president and Kaine does not want to overrule BRCC or anyone else!

Next week who knows?! Kaine might say: "Glocks for all seniors!"

Herea tinyurl of that video link: http://tinyurl.com/2x7caj

Let's hope his political ambitions stop at Governor. I don't want him in federal politics.

Somehow, though, I doubt it.

Well, I wouldn't be too hard on Kaine just yet unless we were sure of what he's basing his ever-changing support on.

If he's changing his tone because of the cries of the majority (and/or is seeing the light himself), then he is indeed being a public servant. If he were to stay fixated on something no matter what the public outcry, then I would be more fearful of him being in a federal level position.

On the downside, he does seem to be going with the flow waaaaaay too much... or at least appears that he is. If he's merely going to tell the people what they want to hear, that's somewhat scary. But, actions speak louder than words, so I guess... as how I believe we should treat all politicians, ignore what he says and focus more on what he does.

I'm not a Kaine supporter or disapprover. He was running about the time I moved to VA, so I don't know much about him outside of what I read, hear and see and I didn't vote since I knew nothing about Virginia or the candidates.

Don't forget folks - as Kaine is looking to the VT Review Panel, try to make it to this meeting and providing public comments to the Panel.

From today's VCDL alert:

The meeting is being held:

Monday, June 11 2007 - Time: 9:00 a.m.
Mason Hall on the George Mason University (GMU) campus
4400 University Dr
Fairfax, Virginia

According to the VT Review Panel web site, the public comment period
will run from 2:30 PM to 3:30 PM. You should be able to sign up at
the meeting.

For Monday's agenda, see: http://vtreviewpanel.org/news/2007/061107_2.html

Since we will be asking the Panel to allow adult students with CHPs
to be allowed to carry concealed on campus, it might be wise if we
set an example to show just how unobtrusive concealed carry can be.
(GMU's 'no gun' policy only applies to students and staff of GMU.)

In addition, speakers should plan on keeping their comments short and
too the point. Try to keep your comments to just one or two minutes
in length.

BTW, here is a carjacking that happened at gun-free VCU yesterday:

To the VCU and VCU Medical Center Communities:

About 1:00 p.m. today (Tuesday), VCU Police arrested two suspects in
a carjacking that occurred in the parking deck of the Broad and
Belvidere Student Apartments an hour and a half earlier. Two female
students, who were victims of the carjacking, were not injured.

VCU Police say that the suspect apparently slipped into the deck when
the gate opened for the car to enter. When the students parked, the
suspect approached the driver with a gun.

VCU Police tracked the car to south Richmond and found three persons
inside, including the suspected carjacker. The carjacker and one
passenger were arrested. The second passenger fled, and is being
sought by VCU Police and Richmond Police.

The suspected carjacker was identified as Alfonza Greenhill, 23, of
Richmond. He has been charged with carjacking, robbery and
brandishing a firearm. The other individual arrested, a 17-year-old
juvenile, has not yet been charged.

The safety of our campus and our surrounding neighborhoods is our top
priority. The aggressive efforts of the VCU Police led to a quick
arrest of the suspects and recovery of the vehicle. Please contact
the VCU Police at 828-1234 if you need their assistance at any time.

Sincerely,

John M. Bennett
