    Howdy folks,

It's time for the 2nd quarter OCDOe-Postal pistol match! The match runs through July 8th so you have one month to shoot those targets and get a great score. The rules are below in .pdf format. If you have any questions about the match or the rules please use the forum so everyone can see and participate vice sending me private messages.

Note: This match is open to all of OCDO, not just Virginia members.

OCDO member Kle took honors at the last match, let's see who can take him down!!

The rules for the match can be found directly below the target picture.

Picture of target you must shoot for reference purposes:

    bring it, kle!

we need to figure out how to get a postal match done under timed, slightly stressed, conditions. or heck, let's just find a range and all get together for some paper blasting (and steel if anyone has any). shoot on the move! standing still is for wussies!

We'll have to start another thread for that, I think. Maybe later.

don't know about this place. but i'd be game for some clay shooting. if you guys don't mind traveling a bit, there are 2 great places for sporting clays east of Richmond - Old Forge Sporting Clays and Sussex Sporting Clays. i've done OFSC before - lots of fun.

we should try to meet up at an IDPA match somewhere soon. 2nd sat. of every month at BCSA. i suck (compared to the other guys there) but it's fun!

I'm game. I have a few plans for this summer, but they aren't final yet. So you guys name a time and place, and if it's not too far away I'd love to be there.

    Hello, nakedshoplifter-

Please find attached my submission for the OCDO Virginia Chapter e-Postal Pistol Match (2nd Quarter). As per the changes to the rules for the 2nd Quarter, it is the "Champion Score Keeper" target. I have included two images, one with the gun and one without--so that it looks like the pictures in the gun magazines when they're reviewing the latest piece of hardware.

I am submitting early because I will be out of town on the 7th and unable to do any last-minute shooting--and I think this submission is pretty good =)

    Thank you!

    -kle
Pictures withheld (from this post) to comply with the rules, of course.

    Good Luck, Everyone!

Eh, if I had the targets, or the desire to set foot in Wally World, I'd join.

http://www.wholesalehunter.net/outdo...r-Targets.html -- you could buy them online, y'know, as well as places aside from Walmart (http://www.championtarget.com/genera...r_locator.aspx -- dealer locator). I think Walmart was mentioned because it's a "least common denominator" sort of thing--practically everyone has access to one.

It doesn't really matter where you got the target from as long as it's the 45723 target, I suppose.

OOPS. July 8. Sorta misremembered the date.

Just got back tonight from vacation. Must do laundry, grocery shop, etc. Guess I won't shoot this one.

But then, hell, I can't SEE 25 yards, much less shoot it.

s'OK. That's what grenade launchers are for.
I'll make you an offer: I will argue and fight for all of your rights, if you will do the same for me. That is the only way freedom can work. We have to respect all rights, all the time--and strive to win the rights of the other guy as much as for ourselves.

If I am equal to another, how can I legitimately govern him without his express individual consent?

There is no human being on earth I hate so much I would actually vote to inflict government upon him.

I decided to stop doing them because of lack of interest. Do you want to host this one kle?

If no one else wants to host one, I will.

I have to admit to no interest in the standard bulls-eye target at 25 yards, but the novelty targets at different ranges intrigue me.

I agree. The majority of the people on this board carry for defensive purposes. 25yds is well beyond our normal engagement range...

well I do like seeing just what I can hit (and how well I can hit it) at long ranges with a pistol, but everyone's probably right--this kind of thing probably doesn't have much place in a defense-oriented community such as OCDO. Thus, I'm content with going out on top (of this format, at least) :P

Maybe we could change the format to silhouettes at 10 yards, and have it be timed...10 seconds? A full magazine or a full cylinder, # of shots not to exceed 10 rounds with no reload. That should ensure rapid-fire shooting.

The scores would be out of 100, with weighted scores for guns whose max capacity without a reload is < 10 shots (like revolvers and single-stack semi-autos). Guns which can fire 10 or more shots without a reload would not get a weighted-score (or you could say the shot-weight would be 1.00).

    Something like:

    # of shots:
    6 shots (standard-capacity revolver, .38spl)
    shot-weight = (100/# of shots)/10:
    1.6667
    score on paper:
    9, 8, 8, 6, 9, 10 (pretty accurate, one flyer)
total score on paper (add up all scores on paper):
    50
total weighted score (total score on paper * shot-weight):
    83.335 pts

Misses would be worth 1-paper-point each (i.e. 1*shot-weight points each), hits on-paper but outside of the silhouette would be worth 5 points, hits in the silhouette but outside the rings would be worth 6 points. Hits touching/breaking a ring/the silhouette would be worth the higher paper-point value.

This would level the playing field somewhat between all the different flavors of defensive handguns...plus, in a SD situation against one static opponent (like the silhouette) 10 shots would be plenty.

    Target-size? What's the difference between a B-34 and B-29 silhouette?

How challenging would something like this be?

hmm...it might be a good waste of ammo, and it might mean it would have to be done with cheaper ammo (i.e. 9mm and .22LR). I can imagine it would get expensive for people shooting the more powerful stuff (like .40S&W, .45ACP, .357SIG, .357 Magnum, and even .38 Special).

Maybe then it should be limited to a max of 5 shots (which should cover just about everything except for the little 2-shot derringers) in 10 seconds at 10 yards, and max score out of 50 (or 100, with a shot-weight of 2.00, which is functionally the same).

and without any caliber restrictions it would favor the lighter rounds (i.e. .22LR). And I assume I mean pistols, because using a rifle that close would be too easy :P (although I've never actually shot a rifle...hmm...)
