Funny thread title. :)

Could someone explain how a party(Dems) reach an agreement with a lobby organization(NRA). Aren't they suppossed to reach agreements with the 'other' party or the Pres. Did they figure without the NRA's blessing it would get killed? So they asked them "Is this ok?" I know some lobby organizations have a lot of pull but I do not 'get' why a certain party would reach agreements on legislation with them.
