My concerns, though, is not so much my body parts (they're big enough, something is always in the way) as it is pointing a weapon at someone else. On my person I know where it is and where it's pointing at all times.

Well, I'm less-than-seriously mentally toying with the idea of a shoulder rig, but one pointed down, behind me at a .45 degree (or so) angle.

I guess that falls under their foot, though.

Or maybe leg/hip, since I'm 6'4", and my shoulders are face level with most people I know.

I've seriously thought about that kind of rig, too. But the issue would be actually drawing the gun. It's not an easy movement to arrange your arm to draw up at a 45 degree angle from under your other arm. You essentially have to put your elbow up to your head, then bring it back down as you draw, rotating your shoulder socket nearly as far as it will go.

If anything, I'd get one that pointed up, like the Galco Jackass System. It would be even better for someone as tall as yourself, since it would point above most other persons head's.

Actually, no.

1> It would be cross-draw. (On a lefty, no less)

Two, I can scratch my armpit without moving my elbow out more than 30 degrees.

And, I guess the Jackass rig would keep people from trying to sneak up behind me.

Just a thought here about shoulder rigs:

Possibly there are concealment issues here, rather like the IWB syle of OC. Now you see it, now you don't. Picky cops might be a nuisance here.

Traditional OC, OWB holster, is totally unambiguous, surely. I realise that some of these fancy name brand belts are far too expensive, which is why I have my saddler make me belts which are a good imitation of the real deal, for half the price!

I told you all before that I was the cheapest son of a buck on the forum!

Just try a belt, if you will. Maybe you will be pleasantly surprised at the comfortable way it supports you and your sidearm.

Respectfully,

TrueBrit.

Perhaps, but I'd guess that a shoulder rig would be a bit harder to snatch from, as is being discussed on another thread.

And why would you OC IWB?

True about a shoulder rig being harder to snatch from, but that is surely where situational awareness comes in, no? Also, I do not carry IWB,too uncomfortable for me, but other folks do it. As I understand things, it constitutes OC if the butt of the gun is visible, and readily discernable as such to a reasonable observer. Why folks carry this way, I do not know. Not my choice of carry, though.

If I happen to be wearing an IWB, I can use it for both CC and switch to OC as it suits me, that's why. I just pull my shirt up and stuff it behind the pistol; instant OC for walking into VA restaurants.

Lately I've been carrying OWB anyway.

I wanted to hear some opinions before I go plunking down a bunch of money on a shoulder harness system. So far I was looking at the Galco Miami (Jackass) rig, but that's pushing $150 - $200, depending on the options. I don't hate the idea of spending a lot if it makes my P99 .40SW ride happily with me.

So, any input on shoulder vs. OWB or any other carry option, as well as different manufacturer/models would be greatly appreciated.

I, Personally, like the Serpa holster with Paddle.

It sits very well on pants when I DON'T have belt.

I wear it on my PJ pants:lol:

Personally, I dont like any of the shoulder harnesses out on the market. I made my own out of 3" and 1-1/2"woven elastic band I bought on ebay with a sewing machine (serger would be better). I got the supplies for $10 including shipping, and that was enough to make 3 of them. Best of all, its all custom made, no velcro, adjustment straps, metal, or plastic peices. Even sewed on a pocket to hold my CPL and a magazine holder. Only took me about 30 minutes to make one, and the elastic is very forgiving to work with, exact measurements arent necessary. If you want any help in making your own, or would even want me to make one for ya, just send me a PM. I'll be glad to help. This picture was of my prototype. I made another one with some extra fabric sewn on to keep the barrel from touching my skin, and more professional sewing job done on the shoulder strap.

there is always the smary carry or thunder-wear. Havent used either, but I hear they work well.

He's looking for something that'll work for OC and CC. If either of those becomes an OC holster, he's already been caught with his pants down.

The smart carry is a good CC option, though. I don't know about the thunderwear at all.

I'll stick with Thumper s motto on this one...
