I was wondering if anyone else thought it might be a good idea for a genuine membership base to contribute towards a legal defense fund in anticipation of offseting costs related to defense of lawful open carry. I think it may be beneficial to be prepared in advance, than to be reactionary.

Anyone else have thoughts on this?

That would be a very difficult thing to do becauseOCDO is just a forum and not an "organization".

Who pays in and how much? How are disbursements made and to whom? Who controls the books? Under what name? Who will monitor membership and eligibility? That sounds like a great idea and has been done many times as a sort of "Mutual Aid Association" but it's a huge undertaking and can be very legally complicated.
