I read this and didn't make it halfway through without breaking down into tears. I knew some of the victims and some of the responding officers mentioned in the article - it felt like that Monday morning all over again.

It is a very good read, very sobering.

I would ask that this not turn this into another "students should be allowed to have guns on campus" thread. I think we can all agree on that point.

I posted this because I think sometimes we all just need to be reminded that our fight is for more than just our civil rights. We fight for those who may one day find themselves in a similar situation.

I can't even imagine. You think about the writers' ability to put something like this on paper, but you just know it still pales in comparison to what people at VT experienced that day. Kind of like, even though a picture is worth a thousand words, the scale and overwhelming experience and emotion of the person taking the photograph is never truly caught on film... or in this case, in writing.
