The VCDL membership info states that since we are affiliated with the Civilian Marksmanship Program, we're "eligible to purchase surplus firearms from the U.S. government" but doesn't offer any additional information, like how to find out what's available, where to buy, etc.

Anybody know anymore about this?

Gents, I'm a CMP member and joinedin April using my VCDL, Lifetime VFW and Retired Military status to join. That said, got a nice M1 Garand, 1903 Springfield, 03/A3 Remington and just got an Inland .30 cal Carbine! Barely.

They're beautiful and you can read about the first three at least right here:
http://www.odcmp.org/new_forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=30496

and pics here:
http://bobcav.blogspot.com/2007/05/my-cmp-riflesm1-garand-m1903.html

The Garands are sold out until October when they'll have about only 3000 and they will not be USGI, but made of spare parts. Unless we get some back from some country we loaned them to, it's not looking good.

They will have 200 Garands on sale at the North stpre on July 9th and about 800 on sale at Camp Perry on July 28th. They're expecting THOUSANDS of people at the event, they usually go on sale late in the afternoon and you could be waiting HOURS and still not get one.

The 03's and A3's are also sold out and the Inland Carbines are sold out as well. MilSurp has really taken off lately and I barely got mine when I did. UNderwood Carbines will be selling for $565 (+$22.95 s/h) sometime in September.

All of mine are beautiful, are great shooters and in excellent shape!

Eligibility requirements to purchase fromthe CMP are here:
http://www.odcmp.com/Services/Rifles/eligibility_requirements.htm

And VCDL membership qualifies as mambership in a CMP Affiliated Organization:

I'm BobCav over on the CMP forum also, so maybe I'll see you there!

Don't forget the CMP ammo! Here's what about ruptured my FedEx guy today:

cmpgoodies.jpg

In addition to the 30.06 for my CMP Greek Racker Garand, that's 5000 rounds of .22LR and 5000 pellets to keep the other kiddies nicely fed for a few weekends.

Yeah, that's almost 120 pounds of ammo. Prices on the 30 cal have gone up, but still a decent deal (but no more Lake City left).

Looks like they have some Garands again and Inland M1 carbines with no limit.
