    Fellow members:

According to Packing.org, my Texas CHL is good for conceal carry in every state I am going to be traveling to/through this year except for New Mexico, Nevada, and Alabama.

Opencarry.org lists New Mexico as a Gold Star open carry. Does this mean that I can open carry there but not conceal carry? Same question for Alabama and Nevada. I plan on carrying two 45 autos in the truck (my wife has a Texas CHL as well)and a rifle in the 5th wheel trailer I will be pulling.

One other issue is that the rifle is a Texas Bushmaster M4 .223 with a 30 round clip. :shock:In Texas, we can hunt deer with this rifle and there is no restriction on the clip size.

Any advice for me in traveling to/through these states? I will be traveling to Chattanooga, TN which means driving through Alabama at the end of August. I am goingto Las Vegas at the end of December and traveling through New Mexico in the process.

Unfortunately Alabama code 13a-11-73 says "Alabama law prohibits any person from carrying a pistol in any vehicle or concealedon or about his or her person without a pistol permit license" (copied from packing.org). This is under the peaceable journey section.

I do not know first hand but from what i have read & been told even though open carry in legal you can expect to draw unfavorable attention from leo. Even if you do open carry you can only do so on foot. As soon as you get in your vehicle it becomes a concealed weapon & you are then carrying concealed without a permit.

If you have time before your trip i would suggest getting either a Florida or Utah permit. With either of these you will then be covered in Al. & N.M. for your trip. Utah will also cover you for Nevada.

    Enjoy your trip.............................................. ...................DF1

Wrong. TX and AL now have reciprocity.

    Good catch Progun.

It looks like N.M. also recognizes a Texas permit. So now your covered everywhere exept Nevada.

New Mexico does not allow carry of any type ANYWHERE that alcohol is sold, whether in open or closed containers. This would include restaurants that serve alcohol, convenience stores, EVEN WALMART or a grocery store. I can't find the state code, despite looking for some time now, but it can be found in the third paragraph of the fifth page of this file:

It has been discussed in the Virginia "Stories From The States" section.
